Senior Actuary - California

Under limited administrative direction, supervises a team of actuaries who are responsible for preparing financial projections for single-employer and multiemployer pension plans. Uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to manage workflow to ensure that established deadlines are met and ensure the accuracy of financial projections. Contributes to writing and maintaining policies and procedures. Works independently on difficult assignments that are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity with appreciable latitude for un-reviewed actions or decisions.Please note: This role is not eligible for immigration Work Visa sponsorship, either currently or in the future.Work EnvironmentEligible for hybrid or fully remote. Residing in the Bay area or Seattle area is strongly preferred, as the Senior Actuary may work from the San Jose, CA or Seattle, WA Office monthly.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage and mentor junior actuaries/analystsClient relationship management, ensuring high-quality deliverablesPerform valuation services for pension and post-retirement medical plansPrepare plan design alternatives for pension and post-retirement medical plansPrepare and present key findings to clientsPerform project tasks independently, and direct the efforts of othersParticipate in and/or lead the development of deliverable content that meets the needs of the clientAnticipate client needs and formulate solutions to client issuesPrepare and review deliverables for accuracy and qualityProvide coaching to junior staffManage own personal and professional development; seek opportunities for professional growth and expansion of consulting skills and experiencesKnowledge ofBroad range of tools and techniques to extract insights from current industry or sector trendsDemonstrated technical proficiency with various software applications and regulatory requirementsSkill inAbility to manage multiple projects at the same timeGood communication and interpersonal skillsDelegating to others to provide stretch opportunities and coaching them to deliver resultsDemonstrate critical thinking and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems.Ability toAble to lead meetings and interact with clients at a high levelUse straightforward communication, in a structured way, when influencing and connecting with othersAble to read situations and modify behavior to build quality relationshipsEducation/Previous ExperienceMinimum 10 years of experience in relevant field including extensive single employer and multiemployer pension plan actuarial experience. Small plan and cashing balance experience preferred.Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or other business related fieldLicenses/CertificationsFSA, ASA, and/or EA actuarial designationMember of the American Academy of Actuaries preferredTravel RequiredYes, 20% of the timeJ-18808-Ljbffr
