Gregory FCA, one of Pennsylvania’s largest public relations firms, is searching for a Controller to manage day-to-day accounting, perform month end closings, generate financial forecasts, and offer financial advice. The right candidate will have a business services background and experience in retainer-based accounting and expense tracking. You must be within commuting distance to our headquarters in Ardmore, PA.
This position requires thorough competency in QuickBooks, Google Workspace, Paychex Flex and time management software, and managing a P&L for multiple offices. The role calls for the ability to work in a near paperless environment as well and have a desire to utilize tech/digital-enabled solutions. You will oversee an accounting clerk and report to the Chief Operating Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, Accounting and Revenue Recognition
Manage month-end closing and prepare monthly financial statements and other operational reports
Analyze variances and communicate to management with recommended actions
Ability to automate accounting tasks and procedures
Prepare forecasts of income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flows for the company; prepare an annual budget; create, maintain and forecast team-based profit margins.
Prepare quarterly financial overview for board of directors, as well as attend board meetings to discuss financial reports
Interfaces with accountant and PE investors
Provides proactive consultation, interpretation and education of financial matters to drive business decisions and provide clear management insights
Oversee firm’s banking process – bank statement reconciliation, frequent review of EFT and check activity, etc
Process payroll
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, and work with firm’s tax accountant as needed
Oversee an accounting clerk providing support, offering insight and reviewing work as needed
Experience/Skills/Specific Knowledge:
Ability to use QuickBooks data to provide financial insights to ownership in order to support business decision making
Strong analytic, planning and organizational skills
Proven track record of automating key accounting tasks and procedures
Ability to work in a near paperless and cloud environment and use tech-enabled tools/processes
Experience in handling multiple concurrent tasks and meeting strict deadlines
Ability to remain flexible with changing priorities and meet both short and long deadlines
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries from the business
Excellent Excel/Google Sheets skills
High standards of personal and professional integrity and character and promote ethical business behavior throughout the organization
Demonstrate strong and pragmatic business acumen
Business services in legal, accounting, advertising/PR preferred
Team player with strong communication skills
Requirements:
Proven working experience as a financial controller
At least 10 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
Degree in Accounting
Experience with business services providers that work on retainer basis
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
Excellent accounting software user and administration skills, with an emphasis on Excel/Google Sheets, Quickbooks, Google Workspace, Paychex Flex, and time management software, as well as various digital payment and expense tracking software
