Patient population groups include children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, occasionally dealing with multiple patients simultaneously. The Paramedic performs and documents assessments and treatments. Individualizes patient care and ensures that interventions are made appropriately according to policy. Identifies needs that may include supervising the transfer of patients to a different facility or level of care. The Paramedic provides direct patient care and administers medications utilizing the five Patient Rights. Identifies significant changes or high-risk situations. Completes all documentation in a timely manner. Demonstrates knowledge and use of equipment encountered in the ambulance department or in the hospital. Communicates patient status at transfer of care. Adjusts own workload as needed. Assesses, identifies, and communicates staffing needs to Supervisor or adjusts staffing needs to the current situation. Responsible for the supervision and safety of staff and bystanders. Coordinates patient care with ancillary departments involved in either direct or indirect patient care. Treatment is accomplished through guidelines established by the Standing Orders and Medical Director. Common diagnoses include trauma, chest pain, respiratory distress, falls, and abdominal pain. Required ALS level of care to titrate drips. Includes common titratable or set rate drips such as nitroglycerin, heparin, IV fluids, and vasopressors. Reports to the Ambulance Supervisor or VP of Patient Care. Familiar with RT equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and ventilators. Preferred to have intubation experience. The schedule includes weekends and holidays as required. There is a call or standby requirement. No floating requirements. Dress code includes navy blue or black pants, with a department-provided shirt. Strictly a 911 service with interfacility transfers.
