Candidate should have basic knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology. Candidate must be able to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals.LOCATION: To Be DeterminedQUALIFICATIONS:60 college credits or Associate's Degree preferredAble to pass English Language Proficiency Assessment (oral, if applicable)Pass ParaPro Assessment (if applicable)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English/Other)Have good organizational skills and initiative. Use positive approaches appropriately and consistently Have ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with peopleExcellent oral communication and written communication skillsAbility to instruct students individually and in small groupsPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in supplemental English Language Development instruction (vocabulary and language development, guided interaction strategies, reading comprehension strategies, use of modeling, realia, graphic organizers and visuals, etc.) under the direction of a certified classroom teacherAssist in identifying students for tutoringTutor students as assigned based on their specific language development skill needs and/or homeworkRelay student progress information in English Language Development to the certified classroom teacher on an ongoing basisParticipate in professional development activities that support supplemental English Language Development principles and strategiesAssist with translations, written documents and interpretations (oral), for students and their families (if applicable), includes interpretations for SPED assessmentsAssist with parent/teacher conferences when neededAttend all Bilingual Services Department staff meetings and building meetingsCarry out policies and procedures of the South Bend Community School CorporationUse time effectivelyComplete Time/Task logs daily and submit to the Program Coordinator in the BSD on the last day of each monthSPECIAL NOTATION:The position requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities and, at times, evening work.
