Job Position: Senior Staff AccountantDepartment: FinanceJob Location : Hampton, Virginia 23661Job Summary:The Senior Staff Accountant works under the Director of Finance and the Assistant Director ofFinance and provides accounting and administrative support for the agency's financial activity. Strongleadership skills, ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization,exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Meeting multiple demands on a timely basis is critical.Essential Job Functions:(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably beassigned.)General Ledger account reconciliation.Tracking project expenditures to ensure fiscal compliance of grant contracts.Prepares reimbursement requests to external funding partners on a regular basis to ensureaccurate, timely drawdown of funds.Ensures general ledger data for grants and related assets are accurate and reconciled monthly,quarterly, and annually.Responsible for the maintenance of official grant files, records and supporting documentationrelated to federal, state, and local projects.Prepares financial reports to external grand funding agencies on a quarterly basis or as needed.Responsible for reconciliations and financial assessment of grants projects, in coordination withother departments.Assists with the preparation of financial reports such as monthly balance sheet, income statement,budget variances, and position of grant funding to be presented to Commission, MFAC, and otherexternal parties.Provides accounting support for monthly closings, periodic reviews, and annual internal orexternal audits.Assists with compilation of routine and ad hoc reports as needed.Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit RecordsManagement Policies and Procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:Required undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration or finance with a minimumof 5 years' experience.Required knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, especially as it relates toenterprise fund accounting, general ledger, financial reporting, and monthly close procedures.Excellent problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.Attention to detail and excellent time-management skills.Ability to independently prepare routine reports, presentations and correspondence with minimalsupervisionExperience with grants and/or governmental accounting.Sr. Staff Accountant Page 2 September 10, 2024Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated withperformance assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with softwareapplications used is expected. Advanced Level proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Software usagerelevant to job duties will be evaluated.Software applications:MS office suite programs and Microsoft D365 accounting modulesSafety Responsibility:Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, andthe public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies.Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to theirSupervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.Qualifications:Training and/or Education:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance,Business Administration, Public Administration, or other related field, MBA preferred; previousexperience in grant administration a plus; demonstration of adequate analytical skills required;must demonstrate effective oral and written communication.Required Experience:Five years' experience in all aspects of accounting.Licenses or Certificates:Possess a valid Driver's License.
