Tool and Die Technician

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESWears all required safety equipment and ensures area and environment is safePerform preventative maintenance as requiredClean and organize area, keep area free of clutter and safety hazards - 6SReads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fittedPlans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speedsHeat-treats and welds parts as requiredDetermines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machiningPerforms hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Uses hand tools of the tradeFits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up, runs off and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting sameTear down, repairs and reassembles tooling on the bench or in the press as requiredAssists other tool room personnel with troubleshooting skills or ideasAssists Press Operators with troubleshooting tooling during production runsHigh degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are requiredHigh degree of attention and care required, preventing injury to self and others when operating machine tools.Possess good troubleshooting skillsAble to pull and set-up toolingMust have valid forklift operator's license (or be willing to be trained before starting job assignment)Process hourly/daily paperwork as requiredDoes in-press P.M.'s as scheduledOther duties as requiredRequired SkillsQUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTSEducation:Completion of formal apprenticeship program with journeyman card or equivalent experienceExcellent time management skills with the ability to multi task and prioritizeExcellent problem solving skills such as 8D and 5 WhysExcellent communication skills as evidenced in colleague relations, team skills, and have the ability to interface directly with the customer to resolve issuesAbility to work independently, self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced environmentExcellent attendance recordComply with Tower Automotive values and policiesPHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the colleague is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, product, or equipment.The colleague is regularly required to talk and hear.The colleague is frequently required to reach with hands and arms in repairing fixing, welding, or conducting inspection.The colleague must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the duties of this job, the colleague regularly works near moving equipment.
