Oliver Wyman Vector - Technical Specialist / Lead Specialist - Flight Operations
We are seeking a highly capable aviation professional with 5-10 years of hands-on experience as a Flight Operations Technical Specialist SME or equivalent technical role. The ideal candidate has progressed beyond core required airline or commercial pilot duties into advanced functions such as flight standards management, regulatory compliance specialist, technical publications, FAA certification project management and brings strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.This role is designed for individuals who understand the broader flight operations aspects (dispatch, crew management, maintenance control, and flight training) and can bridge the gap between flight operations administrative functions and operational leadership-driving efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement. A key focus will be developing high-quality technical manuals while flexing into operational excellence, technical services, and consulting support as needed.Key Responsibilities:Develop, review, and maintain technical manuals, and flight operations documentation to ensure accuracy, usability, and regulatory complianceTranslate OEM data, engineering inputs, and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable instructions for frontline executionEnsure all technical publications align with FAA regulations (Part 121/135/145) and internal quality standardsApply strong critical thinking to identify gaps in documentation, processes, and execution-driving practical solutions that improve safety, quality, and efficiencyFlex across multiple functional areas based on business needs, including:Operational Excellence: Support process improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, TOC), focusing on throughput, WIP control, and cycle time reductionSafety: Provide regulatory compliance experience with 14 CFR part 5 or equivalent Safety Management System (SMS) programsTechnical Consulting: Participate in client-facing engagements, assessments, and transformation initiatives to improve airline operationsCollaborate cross-functionally with maintenance, engineering, planning, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and executionSupport quality assurance and compliance efforts, including audits, inspections, and root cause analysisContribute to the development of standardized processes, templates, and best practices across technical documentation and operationsInterface with internal stakeholders and external clients/partners to ensure expectations are aligned and deliverables are metQualifications:FAA Pilot Licenses preferred (CFI, Commercial, ATP)5-10 years of aviation experience in a commercial environment (121, 135,141, 142)Demonstrated progression into roles such as:Technical PublicationsQuality Assurance / Quality ControlStrong understanding of aircraft systems and regulatory requirementsResearch and experience working within FAA Part 121, 135, or 142 environmentsProven ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and make data-driven decisionsStrong communication skills with the ability to interface across all levels of the organizationExperience with Flight Operations systems (e.g., CAE, NavBlue, ETQ, etc.) preferredPreferred Skills:Experience in project-based or client-facing environmentsProject ManagementExposure to digital tools or data analytics platformsLeadership or mentoring experience is a plusSafety Risk Management and manual interface experienceWhat Success Looks Like:High-quality, usable technical manuals that improve execution and reduce errorsIndependent thinker that knows how to research and apply regulatory processesImproved maintenance flow, reduced turnaround times, and better schedule adherenceEnhanced quality performance (e.g., improved first-pass yield, reduced rework)Strong collaboration across teams and positive client/stakeholder feedbackIdentification and execution of meaningful operational improvementsThe applicable base salary range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
