DescriptionSALARY$24.16/hourThe Santa Barbara County Agricultural Commissioner/Weights & Measures Department is accepting applications to fill one Agricultural/Weights & Measures Inspector Trainee (Temporary) position in Santa Maria, CA. We are currently seeking motivated individuals to support vital agricultural and environmental programs through a variety of technical and administrative tasks. An extra help appointment is defined as an appointment made to a non-regular, non-permanent position established on a temporary basis to meet peak loads, unusual work situations, seasonal and recurrent work, intermittent assignments, or emergencies. These positions are not subject to the Civil Service Provisions.The Ideal Candidate Will Be Able To Effectively speak before the public using tact, patience and courtesy. Perform moderately strenuous physical work which may involve walking on uneven ground, climbing, lifting and bending, and other related physical tasks. Perform work indoors and outdoors in all types of environmental conditions. Maintain a safe and orderly work area and adhere to all safety rules and policies.Examples of DutiesAgricultural/Weights & Measures Inspector Trainee Staff Perform a Variety Of Non-licensed Technical And Administrative Tasks; Perform Customer Service Functions; And Will Assist Agricultural/Weights & Measures Inspectors With Deploying, monitoring, and servicing insect detection traps; conducting field and backyard surveys. Operating and maintaining specialized equipment; testing and inventory monitoring of submeters. Conducting community outreach and educational programs. Conducting integrated pest management activities; attending meetings involving pest management for agricultural, structural, urban and forestry pests. Preparing reports and correspondence and keeping accurate records. Conducting surveys and assisting with inspections at producer sites, nursery and seed locations, organic production sites and other agricultural and retail locations. Gathering statistics and information; preparing data, maps and reports.Employment StandardsAny combination of formal education, training, and/or experience in agricultural, biological, physical science and related subjects and/or prior experience in insect detection programs. A bachelor’s degree is not required for this position.
