That’s where you come in..Job DescriptionWe’re seeking an experienced Sr. Manager, Store Development to join our Brand Environment team. This role is for someone who knows how to run retail construction projects end-to-end: managing Landlords and GCs, navigating permitting, solving on-site issues, and delivering stores that open on time and on budget. We’re looking for someone who understands our brand and acts as a true steward of it—protecting quality, championing design intent, and confidently advocating for creative decisions, even when budget or schedule pressures arise.This position reports to the Sr. Director of Brand Environment and manages two Project Managers. You’ll set standards, lead execution, and act as the primary construction authority across new stores, remodels, and retrofits. If you’re energized by schedules, budgets, field coordination, and the thrill of getting keys on time -this one’s for you.Scope:Landlord Coordination, Permitting, & Codes:Manage landlord coordination, approvals, and construction requirementsOversee the permitting process across multiple jurisdictions, coordinating with architects, expediters, and local agenciesTrack permit timelines and proactively mitigate delaysEnsure projects comply with local building codes, ADA requirements, and landlord criteriaSupport exterior work including signage, storefront upgrades, and façade improvementsConstruction & GC Management:Own all aspects of retail construction execution for new stores, remodels, and retrofitsLead GC and vendor sourcing, bidding, leveling, and selectionNegotiate scopes, pricing, schedules, and change ordersServe as the primary point of contact for GCs, trades, and consultants throughout constructionConduct regular site walks to ensure quality, safety, and schedule adherenceDrive projects through punch list completion, close-out, and turnover to RetailProject Controls: Budget, Schedule & Risk:Develop and own construction budgets, forecasts, and cash flow trackingMonitor spend, approve invoices, and report regularly on budget healthOwn construction schedules and milestone trackingIdentify risks early and implement practical, cost-effective solutionsBalance speed, cost, and quality—without compromising the Marine Layer brandTeam Leadership & StandardsDirectly manage and mentor two Project Managers, providing clear expectations and hands-on supportEstablish and refine construction standards, workflows, and documentationAct as escalation point for complex site, schedule, or contractor issuesFoster a calm, accountable, and solutions-oriented team cultureCross-Functional PartnershipCollaborate closely with Store Design to translate concepts into buildable, efficient construction documentsServe as the bridge between design and construction, ensuring what’s drawn is what gets built (or better)Partner with Real Estate, Finance, Retail Ops, to align schedules and prioritiesSupport store openings, post-opening warranty items, and ongoing building improvementsQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent experience5–8+ years of experience in retail construction or store development.
