Building on more than 30 years of sustainability progress and industry‑first innovation, we remain ‘all in’ on our goal of becoming carbon negative by 2040, without the use of offsets.Position summary: The responsibility of the Tufting Technician is to changeover, set up, and operate any Tufting Machine and to load and unload Tufting Machine with the goal of first quality carpet manufacture.Educational requirements: High school diploma or GED requiredSkills and experience:Two Years Tufting experience with Interface preferredBasic mathematical skills requiredDemonstrated Leadership skills preferredGood communication skills, verbal and written Must have normal color vision or average to above-average shade discernment Interface White Belt and 6S Training preferredBasic Computer Skills Essential duties:Consult with Team Leader for run priorityCheck run schedule for any special instructionsConduct style changes and weight checks on all Tufting machines and set to the proper specificationsCompare all new runs to the Standard Master for Run ApprovalApprove all quality for each Tufted orderCheck current roll for anything unusual (lines, pattern, shade).Check for crossed ends and correctAssist in all change overs to minimize downtimeRethread the machine in the case of ends out or crossed endsLoad and Unload creels for each order, as neededInspect face and back of all the carpet as it comes out of the Tufting machines and identify defectsAttempt to mend all runs and holes in carpet (using the appropriate mending yarn and gun provided), Continuously monitor rolls for first qualityAlert the Fixer for any mechanical issues and defects that require mechanical repairMinimize carpet pileup before rollup in order to minimize stretchDoff the rolls of carpet after they reach the specified length and labelAssist with all backing changes made during the shiftCut master for each new styleCheck all items listed above on that machine before startingDevelop a working knowledge of machine in order to correct any off quality carpetMaintain a place for scrap yarn and carpet to be kept for later recyclingMaximize recycling of all recyclable materials and minimize wasteAssist in giving breaks to other Operators to minimize machine downtime by watching and operating their machines while they are on breakAssist others in general Deposit all yarn and carpet scraps into a specific container for later recyclingPerform 6S audits and assignments Comply with safety rulesComply with environmental regulationsBe aware of departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)Ensure ISO procedures are followed.Understand and support Interface commitment to sustainability.Perform other duties as assignedMaintain HousekeepingPhysical demands: Standing - 90% of shiftWalking up and down stairsConsiderable standingOccasional Pushing & Pulling wheeled cart with up to 360 lbs loadOccasional lifting of up to 25lbsOccasional 12 hour shifts.Occasional changing of primary backing rollsWork environment: Non-climate controlled manufacturing environmentLearn more about Interface (NASDAQ: TILE) and our brands at interface.com and FLOR.com.
