As a Traffic Design Engineer, P.E., you will support mid to large-scale transportation projects with a focus on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and/or Signing and Pavement Marking design.This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow into larger project responsibilities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and public agencies.What are the core responsibilities for the role?Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for transportation projects, including temporary traffic control, detours, and phased constructionPerform analysis, design, and plan sheet preparation for signing, striping, and MOT for highways, arterials, interchanges, and intersectionsSupport technical leads and project managers on traffic design tasks while ensuring compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standardsPrepare studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimatesCoordinate with internal team members across disciplines to support project deliveryParticipate in meetings with clients, agencies, and project stakeholdersApply quality control practices to assigned design tasks and deliverablesManage multiple assignments and meet established project schedulesQualifications, Skills, and Competencies:Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or universityProfessional Engineering (PE) license required5 to 9 years of experience in traffic engineering analysis and designExperience with MOT and or signing and pavement marking designWorking knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standardsExperience with Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar design softwareExperience with Synchro, SimTraffic, Vistro, Vissim, or Aimsun preferredFamiliarity with UDOT or other DOT plan preparation proceduresStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environmentSelf-motivated, organized, and attentive to detailInterest in continued professional development and taking on increasing responsibility over timeWhy would a candidate want this job?At Horrocks, you can expect a competitive base salary and award-winning benefits.
