Senior Software Engineer

PloyAlameda, CAJune 19th, 2026
Job DescriptionWho We AreAt Ploy, we’re building the first growth automation software with your website at its core. We serve innovative operators at growth and marketing agencies, tech start-ups, and some traditional industries as well. They build their website with Ploy’s agents, and then those agents automatically research the landscape and business context, identify winning strategies for account-based personalization, SEO/AEO, conversion rate optimization, and ship dozens of on-brand, on-strategy web pages in seconds to drive traffic and conversions. Our vision is to completely re-define the concept of a marketing website in today’s agentic world. And tear down the broken, archaic low-code tech stacks of the last generation of website builders. With agents, we can unburden a world of story-tellers from manual work, long timelines, and being blocked by internal and external resourcing, and return them to a world of, “yes, and” + “let’s just do it.”It’s a big, scary ambitious vision, but our team is uniquely positioned to do it.Some of the best engineers, design engineers, and growth engineers in the world.World-class investors. And one of our co-founders is Bryant Chou, the former co-founder and CTO of Webflow. Yes, uniquely positioned. And last but not least, hopefully you, the one reading thisAbout the RoleFrom our experience at Webflow and other category-defining companies, we believe deeply that the next generation of software will be built by engineers who can move fast, think from first principles, and use AI to collapse the distance between idea and execution.Ploy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help define and build the technical foundation for that future. You’ll work across the core Ploy platform: the product surfaces users touch every day, the agent-powered workflows that make websites build themselves, and the systems that let teams ship high-performing pages in seconds instead of weeks. This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, AI, infrastructure, design engineering, and growth. You’ll help architect and ship the systems behind agentic website creation — from web editing experiences and generation pipelines to publishing infrastructure, personalization, analytics, internal tools, and the workflows that turn strategy into live pages. This is a high-ownership senior engineering role at an early-stage startup. You won’t just execute on a roadmap. You’ll help shape it. You’ll work closely with founders, designers, growth engineers, and customers to identify the most important problems, design practical technical solutions, and ship production software that directly impacts the business. You should be someone who loves building, has strong product taste, cares deeply about craft, and knows how to balance speed with long-term technical leverage. You should be comfortable operating in ambiguity, making architecture decisions without perfect information, and raising the quality bar for the team around you. What You’ll OwnTechnical ownership — Own major parts of the Ploy product and technical architecture, from early design decisions through implementation, launch, and iterationCore product development — Build and improve the user-facing Ploy product across website creation, editing, personalization, publishing, analytics, and agent-powered workflowsAI-powered systems — Design and implement systems that let users collaborate with agents to research, generate, edit, QA, and ship web pages fasterFrontend engineering — Build polished, performant interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, Next.js, React, and modern web technologiesBackend systems & infrastructure — Develop APIs, services, data models, queues, workflows, and infrastructure that support reliable product experiences at scalePublishing & performance — Help ensure the websites Ploy ships are fast, reliable, SEO/AEO-ready, production-grade, and capable of serving real customer needsArchitecture & technical judgment — Make pragmatic decisions around system design, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer velocityProduct velocity — Work closely with design, product, growth, and customers to turn ambiguous ideas into shipped features quicklyEngineering quality — Raise the bar for code quality, performance, observability, testing, error handling, and maintainabilityMentorship & technical leadership — Support other engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, architecture discussions, and clear communicationCustomer-driven building — Stay close to real user problems and help turn customer feedback into product improvementsQualificationsThe ideal candidate has:5+ years of experience building production software, ideally in a fast-moving startup, product engineering, infrastructure, or high-ownership environmentStrong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, and modern web application developmentExperience working across the stack, from polished frontend interfaces to backend APIs, databases, infrastructure, and deployment systemsStrong product instincts — you care not just that something works, but that it feels fast, clear, useful, and delightfulA track record of owning complex technical projects from ambiguous problem to shipped productStrong technical judgment and the ability to make practical tradeoffs between speed, quality, scalability, and simplicityComfort designing systems that are reliable today while leaving room to evolve tomorrowA genuine interest in AI, websites, growth, design engineering, marketing technology, and the future of softwareExperience collaborating closely with founders, designers, product, growth, and customer-facing teamsComfort with ambiguity and the ability to break open-ended problems into clear, shippable piecesA bias toward action — you do not wait for perfect specs to start buildingHigh attention to detail in code, product experience, and user outcomesStrong communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical teammatesComfort working in-person with a fast-moving team in New York CityBonus: experience with AI tools, LLM APIs, agents, prompt engineering, evals, or automation workflowsBonus: experience with Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Vercel, Supabase, PostgreSQL, Prisma, queues, background jobs, or similar toolsBonus: experience building website builders, CMS products, visual editors, publishing systems, personalization tools, or marketing/growth softwareThis role is for someone who wants to move fast, own foundational parts of the product, and help build the software layer redefining what a marketing website can be.If that sounds exciting, we’d love to meet you.
