This is a fully remote contract role for an artist who is comfortable working in a fast-moving startup-style environment and can produce polished, game-ready assets.The project uses a 3D engine while targeting a 2D / 2.5D visual style. The ideal candidate should be able to create assets that look good in-game, are optimized for real-time rendering, and fit within a cohesive art direction.This role is best suited for someone with a strong portfolio, a passion for games, and the ability to work independently on clearly defined milestones.Position DetailsTitle: Remote U.S. Game Artist / 2.5D Visual Asset ArtistLocation: Fully remote, U.S. onlyType: 1099 contractorDuration: Approximately 3 monthsCompensation: Approximately $9,000 total, depending on scope and milestone structureAvailability: Part-time or project-based contract structureRequirementsApplicants must be based in the United States.Applicants must be legally able to work as an independent contractor in the United States.There is no visa sponsorship for this role.We are not working with agencies or outsourcing firms for this position.Recent graduates and students in their final years of school are welcome to apply, provided they have a strong portfolio and can demonstrate the ability to deliver game-ready work.ResponsibilitiesCreate visual assets for a strategy game using a 2D / 2.5D-inspired art direction.Produce game-ready assets that work well in a 3D engine.Help establish and maintain a consistent visual style across units, environments, interface-adjacent visuals, and other game elements.Create optimized assets suitable for real-time use.Work from references, direction, and milestone-based tasks.Communicate progress clearly and provide work-in-progress updates.Deliver completed assets on schedule according to agreed project milestones.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate has a strong portfolio showing game art, stylized assets, 2D / 2.5D visuals, environment art, units, props, or similar work.They should be comfortable taking direction while also contributing creative ideas. They should understand that game assets must not only look good, but also work well inside an actual engine.A strong candidate will be reliable, self-directed, responsive, and comfortable working in a project-based contractor role.Required QualificationsStrong portfolio of game art, digital art, 2D / 2.5D assets, 3D assets, or stylized visual work.Ability to create polished assets suitable for use in a game engine.Understanding of visual consistency, composition, readability, and optimization.Comfortable working remotely and communicating progress.Able to meet deadlines and deliver milestone-based work.Interest in games and interactive media.Bonus QualificationsExperience with indie games, mods, or shipped game projects.Experience creating optimized game-ready assets.Experience with Blender or similar 3D tools.Experience with environment composition.Experience building scalable art pipelines.Interest in strategy games, simulation games, or AI-driven game systems.Ability to work across both 2D and 3D asset workflows.Contract StructureThe contract may be structured around short project milestones, such as two-week deliverable periods. Each milestone would define a clear set of assets or visual tasks to be completed.This structure allows both sides to evaluate fit, quality, communication, and delivery speed early in the relationship.
