Civil/Structural Engineer
Overview
As a Civil/Structural Engineer within Leidos’ FAA facilities program, you will lead planning, design, and coordination for facility modernization projects. You’ll develop scopes, schedules, and cost estimates, produce drawings and specifications, and manage risk and safety plans. Working with cross-functional stakeholders, you will drive site surveys, construction support, and independent project guidance to ensure on-time delivery and compliance. This role emphasizes independent problem-solving, multi-disciplinary coordination, and a focus on infrastructure upgrades for critical facilities.
ResponsibilitiesConduct on-site surveys to create to-scale designs and reportsPrepare AutoCAD/construction drawings and site-specific specificationsCoordinate design components with multidisciplinary teams for modifications and new constructionLead project management tasks including safety plans, work sequences, and cutover plansDevelop and maintain Integrated Risk Management Checklists and ORM-related plansCoordinate and obtain Work Permits related to lead/asbestos during constructionParticipate in pre-construction and on-site meetings with stakeholdersPlan, schedule, and coordinate construction activities to meet milestonesReview FAA-designed engineering project designs and monitor progressCommunicate effectively with stakeholders and maintain electronic project folders
Key requirementsCivil or Structural Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited programAt least 3 years of foundation design and industrial structural systems experienceCurrent knowledge of building structural codes for design calculations and assessmentsProficiency with AutoCAD / MicroStation; MS Word, Excel, PowerPointStrong written and verbal communication and technical writing skillsAbility to obtain FAA Public Trust clearance and pass drug testUS citizen or Green Card holder with three years US residency for Public Trust eligibilityAbility to travel up to 30% and work five days a week in Des Plaines, ILExperience with environmental equipment, mechanical systems, roofing, and facility refurbishmentstrong communicationproblem-solvingstakeholder coordinationAutoCADMicroStationMS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
