Controls Engineer – Industrial AutomationLocation: Columbus, INSalary Range: $75,000 – $95,000Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-TimeJob Summary: We are supporting a confidential custom automation and industrial systems manufacturer seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and deploy advanced automated equipment.This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll work across the full lifecycle of automation systems — from PLC programming and electrical design to startup, commissioning, and customer delivery. This is not a maintenance role — it’s ideal for someone who wants to build, program, and launch systems from scratch in a project-driven environment.Required Skills & Qualifications1+ years of experience in controls engineering or industrial automationHands-on experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Keyence, etc.)Experience with robotics or cobots (Fanuc, UR, Doosan, etc.)Experience with vision systems (Keyence, Cognex, barcode readers, etc.)Ability to read and interpret electrical schematicsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsExperience working in manufacturing or automation environmentsMust be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available)Preferred SkillsExperience with HMI / motion control systemsExposure to SQL Server / database integrationFamiliarity with AutoCAD or electrical design toolsExperience supporting equipment startup, commissioning, or runoffsComfortable supporting projects outside standard hours when neededDay-to-Day ResponsibilitiesProgram and support PLCs, robotics, and vision systems for custom equipmentDesign and support electrical systems (panels, circuits, wiring)Support startup, commissioning, and customer acceptance testingTroubleshoot electrical and controls issues and implement fixesAssist with field wiring, debugging, and system validationSupport project documentation and training materialsCollaborate with engineering teams to bring systems into productionCommunicate technical updates with customers and internal teamsWork EnvironmentPrimarily onsite in a custom automation facilitySome hands-on work including lifting (30–50 lbs) and working on equipmentOccasional support during installation/startup phasesWhy This RoleWork on custom, non-repetitive automation projects (not the same line every day)Strong exposure to PLC + robotics + vision systems in one roleClear path for technical growth and skill expansionCollaborative engineering environment with real ownershipCompetitive compensation + full benefitsInterested?Apply directly or message me for a confidential conversation.
