1. About Our Client:The organization operates in the cybersecurity field, supporting a U.S. Department of Energy national security facility. It addresses the challenge of securing critical information technology systems by implementing and managing comprehensive security controls. The organization contributes to national security by ensuring the protection and integrity of sensitive systems through rigorous cybersecurity programs.2. About the Opportunity:The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) role is central to the cybersecurity program, responsible for independently assessing and ensuring the effectiveness of security controls on IT systems. This position provides technical guidance critical to the success of security operations and supports the authorization and continuous monitoring of system security posture. The role impacts the organization by maintaining strong cybersecurity defenses at a national security level.3. Responsibilities:• Conduct independent assessments of management, operational, and technical security controls following NIST SP 800-37• Implement and maintain security controls aligned with approved baselines and requirements• Support system authorization activities, including development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs) and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)• Monitor system security posture and identify risks, vulnerabilities, and compliance gaps• Track and manage POA&Ms and coordinate remediation with system stakeholders• Assess security impact of system changes and support configuration/change management• Support continuous monitoring activities, including vulnerability management and security reporting• Serve as security liaison between system teams, cybersecurity operations, and governance bodies• Prepare systems for security assessments, audits, and Authorizing Official reviews4. Requirements:• U.S. citizenship required• Minimum 5 years of ISSO experience• Strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-37 and NIST SP 800-53• Experience implementing and maintaining security controls and supporting system authorization processes• Ability to monitor security posture, identify risks, and manage remediation efforts• Familiarity with continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, and security reporting• Experience supporting cybersecurity at U.S. Department of Energy facilities is highly desired• Bachelor''s degree in a related field preferred, but technical experience is prioritized over formal education• No security clearance required5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:• Compensation range is $115,000 to $145,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications6.
