Position Purpose: The Nurse Educator is a professional nurse who provides consultation to nursing personnel and conducts and coordinates educational experiences. The responsibilities encompass assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical skills' development, in-service and continuing education programs at the Unit and/or Department level. Key Job Activities: Participates in select Nursing Leadership/Hospital Committees.Maintains documents and records in compliance with departmental, organizational and external agency requirements, i.E., in-service attendance, competency records/ skills checklists, etc.Maintains confidentiality of records and makes them available only to authorized individuals.Compiles reports related to progress toward attainment of Departmental goals, i.E., in-service productivity, competency compliance, etc.Serves as a resource regarding educational issues to Nursing/Hospital Departments throughout Sinai Health System.Addresses Quality issues on the Unit and at the Department level.Serves as a resource in obtaining educational materials necessary to conduct educational activities.ClinicalPromotes adherence to Standards of Nursing Practice by caregivers.Keeps abreast of current changes in Nursing Policies and Procedures.Coordinates in-service education to assist caregivers in acquiring, maintaining and/or increasing their aptitude to fulfill assigned responsibilities.Teaches and evaluates educational programs associated with new procedures, equipment, policy or protocol.Functions as a clinical mentor by establishing relationships which serve to guide, orient, coach and demonstrate expertise for the purpose of advancing practice.Maintains current clinical/educational knowledge and skills through attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops.Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards.EducationConducts periodic Needs Assessments and develops educational programs to meet identified meet needs based on assessment outcomes.Supports the onboarding process by partnering with Unit Directors and Preceptors to plan department orientation schedules and activities.Develops behavioral competencies on new procedures/processes/equipment based upon high risk, low volume activities.Collaborates in the development of a Nursing Education Plan.Utilizes concepts of Adult Education/Lifelong Learning in program planning, implementation and evaluation.Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering and managing nursing professional development activities.Documents unit orientation and continuing education data into the Skills Dictionary.Serves as an educational resource for caregivers and assists with affiliating academic programs in nursing.Reviews and updates educational programs/activities based on performance improvement data and evaluation feedback.Formulates recommendations to improve nursing professional development practice.ResearchParticipates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.Gathers data and evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs as measured against written objectives.Synthesizes literature review and clinical experiences in preparation of educational presentations.Shares outcome findings related to Performance Improvement activities with caregivers in nursing and other departments.LeadershipSupports and complies with the Education Department Mission/Vision/Values.Demonstrates leadership by maintaining educational or clinical competencies appropriate to the role which reflects your own professional growth and development.Practices in a manner that provides leadership in the work setting as well as the profession.Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice.Other DutiesPerforms designated special assignments.Maintains good interpersonal relationships with members of the Sinai Health System Team.Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Work Experience: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.MSN, other related Master's degree (or working toward a degree)3 - 5 years' experience in nursing education is required Knowledge and Skills: Experience in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems preferred.
