Lead Data Engineer - BigQuery GCP

Role Overview:As the Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team of data engineers to design, develop, and optimize scalable data solutions on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to define and implement data strategies that align with business goals. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, requiring strong expertise in BigQuery, data architecture, and cloud engineering best practices.If you have a passion for data, cloud technology, and building high-performance teams, and you excel at translating business requirements into technical solutions, this role is for you!Key Responsibilities:Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development opportunities.Data Strategy & Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of data architectures and pipelines that support analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning requirements.Project Management: Oversee project planning, task allocation, and timeline management to ensure the successful delivery of complex data solutions.Hands-On Development: Develop and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, and Cloud Composer.Performance Tuning: Implement best practices for performance optimization, data partitioning, and clustering to ensure cost-efficient and high-performance data queries.Data Governance & Quality: Establish and enforce data quality standards, data governance frameworks, and security policies for data storage and access on GCP.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver innovative solutions.Automation & Monitoring: Utilize Cloud Composer, Cloud Functions, and other orchestration tools to automate data workflows and ensure reliability and scalability of data pipelines.Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data workflows, architectures, and processes. Share knowledge and best practices with the team to elevate technical competencies across the organization.Required Qualifications:7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role.Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, and Cloud Composer.Advanced proficiency in SQL for complex query development, stored procedures, and performance optimization in BigQuery.Hands-on experience in designing and implementing scalable data architectures and building ETL/ELT pipelines.Proficiency in Python or other programming languages for data automation and workflow orchestration.Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performance engineering teams.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.GCP Professional Data Engineer Certification is highly desirable.
