OverviewSystems Engineering is a cross-functional discipline that combines technical and business perspectives through a structured approach, mindset, and process. It focuses on delivering high-quality solutions that meet user needs by balancing both customer requirements and technical feasibility.This discipline involves a robust process that spans from concept through production to operation. Key activities include:Identifying and quantifying system requirementsDeveloping and evaluating alternative design conceptsPerforming design trade-offs and selecting optimal solutionsImplementing, verifying, and integrating the chosen designThe role may include planning and executing departmental operations or leading activities within a specific technical domain. While the work is guided by established policies and expected outcomes, there is flexibility to adapt processes and practices—so long as the final results meet quality, timeline, and performance standards.ResponsibilitiesIndependently perform in depth system studies listed below and/or specify scope, review, comment, direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below:Load Flow / Power Flow, Reactive Capability and Reactive Compensation, Power Factor StudyDynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies using both offline and online simulation tools.Power System Dynamic SimulationShort circuit analysisCombined Short Circuit Ratio (CSCR) EvaluationTransient Switching and Insulation Coordination StudyTransient Recovery Voltage (TRV) AnalysisDelayed Current Zero AnalysisHarmonic Distortion StudyHarmonic Stability StudyOverall System Performance Assessment StudyExpertise in system tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP, ASPEN, ETAP, EMTP, TARA, DigSilent PowerFactory, to perform system studies as detailed above or under desired characteristics section.Excellent Technical Communication skills to provide guidance, analysis and reports in clear succinct manner to customers, project team and stakeholders.Provide guidance and coordinate the engineering tasks to meet the project/tender requirement.Technical responsibility in areas of expertiseBe innovative, develop and industrialize solutions tools and processes associated with system studiesBe actively involved in new developments in HVDC technologies, implementing control and protection solutions and creating / delivering new analysis techniques and system study tools to provide optimized system study solutions.Process Improvement: Review and record design processes and develop new or improved processes.Enforce engineering discipline and set processes across all work tasks and adherence to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions (e.g., through trainings, technical reviews).Represent the business in external events by publishing technical papers.Apply yourself towards improving your technical knowledge base and keep abreast of relevant methodologies and technological advancement within the Company.Support and mentor other engineers to increase the team's technical knowledge and competence.Report or resolve any non-conformances in a timely manner.Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum 10 years' experience of network or transient studies for HVDC/FACTS/Renewable Energy/Inverter based Power Systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations or grid interconnects.Minimum 5 years working knowledge of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs' interconnection or transmission planning guidelines. Familiarity with NERC standards such as TPL, MOD, and PRCMinimum 5 years familiarity with ISOs such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISOAble and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines.Desired CharacteristicsKnowledge of system tools such as SIMULINK, MATLAB, DSATKnowledge of RAM StudiesIndependently perform in depth system studies listed below and/or specify scope, review, comment, direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below:Grid Compliance, Transmission network planningElectromagnetic compatibility (EMC) study, Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) studyLow Voltage Ride Through (LVRT), High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) studyArc FlashProtection studies … relay coordination, unit protection, real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) for protectionCable selection and SizingNetwork studies: Confirmation of the correct interaction between the equipment, its control system, and the rest of the network.Expertise in the use of computer mathematical and simulation tools as applied to the design of the activities.Strong knowledge on High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local Grid Codes and related equipment (safety, application, sizing, and integration). Moreover, ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.Professional Engineering license and willing to review and seal your work and the work of others under your supervision.Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution.Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements.Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrester selection, ground grid design, and lightning protectionField-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.Knowledge of IEC and CIGRE guidelines is a plusExcellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD strongly desired.CompensationThe salary range for this position is 122,300.00 – 163,100.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location.
