Position Overview:We are seeking a Controller to take on the exciting challenge of elevating our client's (pre-IPO pharmaceutical company) accounting and tax infrastructure and operations. We are interested in speaking with candidates internal to biotech as well as outside of the pharmaceutical industry, who may be looking to grow their career, driven by a curiosity and love for process improvements, and wanting to lead and develop others.Within this position, you will own and improve the integrity of the close process, financial reporting accuracy, SOX compliance, technical accounting, and tax. You will elevate the quality of reconciliations across accounts, strengthen internal controls, and ensure the organization operates with precision and accountability. We are excited to find a truly curious individual with deep accounting fluency, public company experience, and leadership presence to guide both team members and executive stakeholders in this pivotal time of company growth!Key Responsibilities:Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close with a focus on discipline, accuracy, and continuous improvement.Elevate the quality, accuracy, and consistency of account reconciliations across the organization.Approve and ensure accuracy of IFRS-compliant financial statements.Own and continuously refine accounting policies and procedures.Lead SOX compliance and strengthen the overall internal control environment.Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and lead the annual audit process.Oversee end-to-end accounting operations from transaction processing through financial reporting.Manage payroll accounting and assess transition of full ownership into Accounting.Review and ensure accuracy of gross-to-net reconciliations, including discounts, rebates, chargebacks, and returns.Oversee inventory and production accounting, including standard costing and reserve analysis within a manufacturing environment.Support transfer pricing and intercompany accounting activities.Partner on M&A and due diligence efforts.Oversee tax matters, advising on implications of business decisions and transactions.Drive automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.Monitor changes in accounting standards and business activity; lead technical research, documentation, and communication to leadership.Maintain and update accounting policies, procedures, and SOPs; establish cross-training and backup structures to ensure continuity.Lead, develop, and elevate the accounting team, strengthening technical capability and performance standards. Qualifications and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field requiredMaster’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Tax, or Business preferred6+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing scope and leadership responsibilityCPA strongly preferredPublic accounting background strongly preferredDemonstrated leadership experience managing teams across close, financial reporting, and auditExperience operating within a public company environment, including SEC reporting and SOX complianceExperience in a commercial-stage pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences organization preferred; alternatively, deep exposure to gross-to-net and government pricing requiredProven track record building and leading high-performing accounting and tax teams in complex, regulated environmentsDeep technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP (IFRS exposure preferred), financial reporting, internal controls, tax, transfer pricing, and manufacturing accountingExperience driving process improvements, automation, and scalable accounting infrastructureStrong understanding of best practices in financial operations and controllershipExecutive-level communication skills with the ability to influence and present to senior leadershipAbility to operate effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlinesHighly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple prioritiesSelf-directed, accountable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environmentWhat Naturally Makes You a Good Fit:Approaches challenges with a positive, solutions-oriented mindsetHigh intellectual rigor with strong analytical thinkingNaturally curious with a commitment to continuous learning and growthSets a high standard for excellence and holds self and others accountableOperates with agility and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environmentDemonstrates strong ownership and a drive to make meaningful impactBenefits of working with the team:As a valued member of our team, you will enjoy the following benefits:Competitive salary (Salary Range: $180,000-$245,000), Short & Long term bonus opportunities, Comprehensive medical coverage, Dental and vision coverage, Generous paid time-off, 401(k) retirement plan with competitive company match, Medical & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account, monthly cell phone reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program, onsite free parking, weekly lunch catered at office, etc.
