Retirement: None Contact Person: Shawn Dowiak Job Summary/Basic Functions Fraternity & Sorority Life, a part of the Department of Student Life, which is located within the Division of Student Success, Engagement, and Opportunity provides graduate students with an assistantship appointment that encompasses professional service, research, and leadership in the field of fraternity and sorority life management. The Graduate Assistantship provides opportunities for in-depth learning of event planning and programming and student organization advising to meet the needs of fraternity and sorority students. The GA will communicate and engage with student organizations and with chapter advisors, they will help plan programming and events for Councils and the Greek Community. The GA will function as a planner, advisor, and programmer while communicating and collaborating with internal units on campus, external constituents, and members of the EKU undergraduate student community. Minimum Qualifications Unconditional acceptance into a graduate degree program at Eastern Kentucky University Enroll in at least nine (9) credit hours per semester in a graduate degree program Maintain a 3.0 GPA in coursework leading toward the completion of graduate degree Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills Possess excellent computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Skills in multi-tasking and the availability to work evenings and weekends as needed Possess excellent administrative skills Job Duties 50% - Provide effective and efficient management, assessment and facilitation of programs and events at Eastern Kentucky University. Assist staff in event management support, including but not limited to site selection, facility reservations, contract negotiations, marketing, and on-site coordination. - (Essential) 30% - Conduct chapter coaching and engage in council advising. Work with chapter presidents to develop their proficiency as leaders and assist council officers with council management. This position will directly advise at least one of our four councils (National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, or Cultural Greek Council). - (Essential) 20% - Support the needs of Student Life and First-Year Experience programming. Perform administrative duties as assigned. Engage in other duties as assigned that are related to fraternity and sorority life management. - (Essential) Sponsorship This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
