Events are a core part of how New Media shows up in the world: they deepen relationships, surface ideas, and create moments that extend the firm's reach and amplify its brand.The Events Partner for New Media is a senior operator responsible for designing and executing a portfolio of high-impact experiences - from intimate community dinners to multi-day summits and leadership retreats. This role requires someone who can move between strategic planning and ground-level logistics without losing a step. Someone who understands that no two events are the same, and who holds themselves to the highest bar, because these experiences reflect the firm's brand, relationships, and reputation at the highest level.The preferred location for this role is San Francisco Bay Area, CA. We will consider candidates in New York City, NY. The role will require in-office presence from time to time.To join our team, you should be excited to:Design and lead a suite of high-impact experiences, from intimate community dinners to multi-day summits and leadership retreats - bringing creative vision and a constant push to elevate the guest experience; this is not a rinse-and-repeat rolePartner directly with senior executives, GPs, and prominent external figures to shape experiences that reflect the firm's brand and deepen its most important relationshipsOwn all operational logistics including venue sourcing, vendor negotiation, contract management, and on-site production for both in-person and virtual formatsBuild and manage event communications campaigns; own the outreach calendar, track registrations and engagement, and adjust strategy based on dataProduce post-event reporting including budget reconciliation, attendee feedback, and ROI analysis; translate lessons learned into improved processes and future planningPartner with editorial, communications, and design teams to develop branded collateral and ensure events are integrated into broader marketing effortsMinimum Qualifications7+ years of experience in event management, with a proven track record across complex, high-visibility events, consistently raising the bar on guest experience and bringing fresh thinking to every formatPoise, influence, and discretion working directly with senior executives, investment partners, and prominent external figures; not just executing on direction, but actively shaping it; able to articulate recommendations, push back when needed, and influence senior stakeholders with sound judgmentStrong operational instincts - able to manage vendors, contracts, and on-site logistics while staying calm under pressureProficient with CRM and event tools (Salesforce, Marketo, or equivalents); comfortable with data, reporting, and ROI analysisExcellent written and verbal communication skills; sharp eye for detail and a high bar for qualityExperience with community building and network engagementComfortable with ambiguity and energized by it - able to translate loosely defined goals into creative, executable plans and build the playbook when one doesn't existLow ego, high empathy, and genuinely collaborative across functions and levelsAbility to travel up to 30-40% of the timeThe anticipated salary range for this role is between $221,000 - $258,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave. a16z culture We do only first class business and only in a first class wayWe take a long view of relationships, because we are in the relationship business We believe in the future and bet the firm that wayWe are all different, we recognize that, and we winWe celebrate the good timesWe do it for the teamWe play to winAt a16z we are always looking to hire the absolute best talent and recognize that diversity in our experiences and backgrounds is what makes us stronger.
