Sr. Software Engineer - Backend

BackgroundThe Foundations Engineering team is composed of Site Reliability Engineers and Software Engineers working on the HCP Terraform hosted service. Our team ensures that the platform's underlying infrastructure, data stores, and core foundational services are reliable, performant, and robust.We're looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our team. The Engineers on our team own the core foundational services that power the entire HCP Terraform hosted service. These mission-critical services and data stores compose the Terraform plan and apply pipeline, and are used by every Terraform run which hits HCP Terraform. If you have experience with large-scale distributed systems and a focus on system security, we'd love to meet you! With a large footprint and a quickly-growing user base, you'll tackle large problems impacting multiple services and have plenty of opportunities for growth and development.Your Role And ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do:Develop and maintain the backend services on which HCP Terraform reliesContinuously improve the product by writing code in systems written in Ruby on RailsInvestigate problems, performance bottlenecks, and orchestration issues which span multiple servicesEnable your teammates through technical mentorship, code reviews, and pairingParticipate in a 24/7 on-call rotation that supports our production servicesRequired Technical And Professional ExpertiseWhat you'll need:Have 5+ years of production experience working on any of the following:Backend applications (e.g., Ruby on Rails)Databases (e.g., Postgres, Redis)Strive for quality through maintainable code and comprehensive testing from development to deploymentExperience upgrading Ruby, Rails, and dependenciesExperience building and scaling distributed, highly available systemsCommunicate clearly while remaining empathetic and kindHave an eagerness to learn through humility and reflectionHave experience debugging performance bottlenecks for live services and systemsAre familiar with best practices for application and infrastructure securityJ-18808-Ljbffr
