We’re a growing firm looking for a Tax Specialist who wants more ownership over their work than a traditional firm allows. This is a tax-first role with accounting and client development responsibilities — you’ll handle returns end-to-end, work directly with clients, help bring in new business, and have real input into how the firm operates.What we offer now:Fully remote — U.S.-based, work from anywherePaid time offFlexible scheduling — we manage to output, not hoursDirect involvement — small team, your input mattersBase salary: $60,000–$75,000 — depending on experience and credentialsProfit sharing — you help grow the firm, you share in the upsideWhat’s coming as the firm scales:Health insurance and expanded benefitsLeadership opportunities for early team membersAdditional performance-based compensation growthWhat You’ll DoTax Preparation (~50–60% of Role)Prepare and review individual and business tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 990) in Drake to a complete, organized, and accurate standardResearch and apply relevant U.S. Tax Code provisions, elections, and planning strategiesIdentify tax-saving opportunities and flag issues proactively for clientsHandle IRS and state correspondence, notices, and resolution as neededStay current on tax law changes and communicate impacts to the team and clientsClient Development & Relationship Management (~20–25% of Role)Serve as a primary point of contact for clients — build trust, manage expectations, and maintain strong relationshipsConduct discovery calls and consultations with prospective clients to assess their needs and close new engagementsFollow up on inbound leads, referrals, and proposals to convert prospects into clientsIdentify upsell and cross-sell opportunities within existing client relationships (e.g., bookkeeping, advisory, tax planning)Support creation and refinement of client-facing proposals, marketing materials, and outreachAccounting & Bookkeeping Support (~15–20% of Role)Review and clean up QuickBooks Online bookkeeping — coding accuracy, balance sheet vs. P&L classification, reconciliations, and general financial hygienePrepare client-ready financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, variances, and supporting schedules)Prepare financial statements, budgets, and projections for bookkeeping and advisory clientsManage client accounts across QuickBooks, Xero, Drake, and TaxDomeFirm Operations (~5–10%)Draft clear, professional client questions and follow-up requests when information is missing or unclearMaintain strong workflow hygiene in TaxDome — update task statuses, document notes/assumptions, and keep work moving without items stallingHelp improve firm operations by creating and refining SOPs, templates, checklists, and repeatable processesWhat You BringMust-Haves3+ years of hands-on experience preparing U.S. federal and state tax returns (individual and business) in a CPA firmStrong working knowledge of the U.S. Tax Code, entity structures, and common elections/strategiesBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldProficiency with Drake Tax SoftwareStrong working experience with QuickBooks Online and TaxDomeAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data cleanup, reconciliations)Comfortable communicating directly with clients — phone, video, and email.
