SummaryJob Description:The person in this position will work with project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments. Work will include completing designs using CADD modeling software, preparing spreadsheets and construction plans and specifications, completing site development designs, and writing reports as well as performing construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility inspection. This person may also work with permitting agencies and public officials. Work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineeringComputer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, as well as intermediate to advanced knowledge of ExcelFamiliarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD-based civil design softwareStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsAbility and willingness to conduct fieldwork independently or with a team, either locally or out of town, when neededLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futureValid driver’s license and acceptable driving recordPreferred QualificationsEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain certification within one yearPreparation of plans and specifications, analyzing alternatives, developing quantity takeoffs and cost estimatesConstruction administration experience, such as review and response to payment applications, submittals, and claims and interpreting plans, specifications, and bid documentsDrafting PowerPoint, memo, and report text and figuresTwo or more years of related work experienceExperience with Civil 3DA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr’s Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Position will require lifting or moving field-testing equipment. Safety training will be provided before being given work assignments on these sites.
