*Job Description:*
We are seeking a skilled and experienced *Data Engineer*. This position will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing robust, scalable data pipelines that enable seamless data flow across key educational and administrative systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in cloud-based data architecture (preferably Azure), ETL/ELT processes, and secure, real-time data integrations.The *Data Engineer *will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining real-time and bi-directional data synchronization pipelines between various systems, including:
* *AMS* (Academic Management System)
* *Azimuth Dataverse*
* *Canvas LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability)*
* *Slate Admissions Platform*
The consultant will also be instrumental in consolidating these data sources into a centralized, modern platform to support analytics, compliance, and operational reporting.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Design and build scalable, resilient data pipelines and integration workflows for real-time and batch processing.
* Develop bi-directional sync mechanisms between AMS, Azimuth Dataverse, Canvas LTI, and Slate Admissions.
* Build connectors and APIs where needed to enable seamless interoperability across platforms.
* Perform data mapping, cleansing, transformation, and validation to ensure data integrity across systems.
* Implement data governance, lineage tracking, and metadata management in alignment with organizational standards.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, data analysts, system administrators, and stakeholders to meet integration goals.
* Develop automated monitoring and alerting solutions to track data flows, detect anomalies, and ensure system health.
* Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including pipeline designs, system architecture diagrams, and ETL processes.
* Support security, compliance, and policy requirements including DoD 8140 standards.
*Required Certifications*
* *Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)*
* *DoD 8140 Compliant: IAT Level II Certification*, such as:
* CompTIA Security+
* CCNA Security
* CySA+
* GSEC, or equivalent
*Preferred Skills and Experience*
* 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with emphasis on cloud data platforms (Azure preferred).
* Deep understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or similar.
* Experience with API integration, webhooks, and middleware for real-time data sync.
* Proficiency in data modeling, SQL, and working with relational and non-relational databases.
* Knowledge of educational technology platforms such as Canvas, Slate, and Dataverse.
* Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
* Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD for data pipelines.
