Medical Director - Monte Vista Animal Hospital

Position OverviewThe Medical Director (MD) is responsible for providing strong leadership for the hospital, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, and ensuring regulatory compliance related to the practice of veterinary medicine. The MD also maintains an environment of teamwork that delivers the highest quality veterinary medicine. In partnership with the hospital leadership team, the MD shares responsibility for the financial health of the hospital, directing staff and overall management of practice operations. The MD also serves as a staff veterinarian in addition to administrative and leadership duties. Effective MDs demonstrate strong work and professional ethics, a positive attitude, and uphold a high standard of patient care.Hospital OverviewMonte Vista Small Animal Hospital offers all services under one roof: surgery, dental care, internal medicine, and boarding. Established in 1993, the hospital has been offering a gold standard of care to clients and patients, emphasizing professionalism and compassion.Compensation and Benefits OverviewSalary Range: $175,000 - $200,000Medical Director stipendNo negative accrual and no non‑competePaid time off and holidaysGenerous sign‑on bonusRelocation assistanceFlexible schedule optionsEmployee pet care discountsFull benefits package, including but not limited to: health, dental, vision, disability, liability insurance, 401(k) with company contribution, reimbursement and time off for CE & license fees, and more.Essential FunctionsMaintain a high quality of progressive veterinary careOversee and give directives regarding medical standards and quality of careSet policies as they pertain to the practice of medicineWork toward integrating various services as one teamRecommend additions to the hospital inventory in conjunction with appropriate leadership team membersBudget for new equipment and provide reasonable cost estimates and return on investmentProvide clinical care by seeing patientsEnsure positive communication with clients and among doctors, including proper transfer of patient care responsibilitiesReview patient records for completeness and accuracy and use them to promote medical excellenceAppropriately manage controlled drugsReview and approve requests for alternatives to additional drugs and medical suppliesConduct regular doctor meetingsPerform other duties as assigned by the ManagerAdministration DutiesHandle patient care problems, client complaints, and referral partner issuesManage veterinary, client, and board complaints and recommend resolutionsSchedule staff at the hospital to meet practice needsDevelop medical policiesAssist in ensuring practice compliance with the State Veterinary Medical Practice Act, OSHA, and AAHA standardsLeading by ExampleHold licensure in good standing to practice and maintain all required licenses with timely renewalsMonitor DVM performance and production, providing coaching when appropriateServe as a mentor and role model for all staff veterinariansDevelopment of the PracticeLead candidate interviews of potential DVMsIdentify new service opportunities that do not currently exist in the hospitalHold ownership for the revenue and success of the practice by monitoring key performance indicators and working with the Hospital Manager to make adjustments to achieve positive resultsHelp identify and plan for upcoming challenges in maintaining hospital operations and possible temporary solutions (locum)Perform other duties as assigned by the ManagerQualificationsEducation/Experience:Doctor in Veterinary Medicine Degree3+ years of clinical experiencePrior experience in leadership or management preferredPetVet is an equal opportunity employer.
