This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of journey-level mechanics at the West Point Treatment Plant, performing both planned and unscheduled maintenance while honing your mechanical skills in an industrial setting. Enjoy training, comprehensive benefits, and growth opportunities.Job DutiesWhat You Will Be Doing:Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of a wide variety of complex mechanical machinery, including pumps, motors, grinders, blowers and compressors, centrifuges, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and gravity belt thickeners, independently or with minimal guidance.Install, maintain, and repair large plumbing and piping systems used in a wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.Fabricate, modify, and repair plant piping and other heavy equipment using welding equipment, cutting torches, and plasma cutters; contribute to design improvements when appropriate.Safely operate a variety of hand, power, and pneumatic tools, including grinders, drill motors, drill presses, band saws, ironworkers, table saws, and hydraulic presses, applying expert knowledge of proper techniques and shop practices.Lead or mentor less experienced mechanics or helpers, providing guidance and support on complex tasks and troubleshooting.Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall reliability and safety of plant operations.Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring:Extensive knowledge of the safe use, care, and operation of hand, power, and pneumatic tools, as well as specialized shop equipment, for mechanical maintenance and repair.Strong knowledge of plumbing techniques and principles, including installation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale wastewater facility piping systems.Proficient knowledge of welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, as well as cutting and fabrication for heavy equipment and plant piping. Work involves lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders in and out of tanks, and working in confined spaces.Employees regularly operate heavy machinery, rigging, and power tools, and work around high noise levels, noxious odors, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces.Must be able to safely perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching while completing maintenance, repair, and installation work.Workplace Exposure:Work is performed outdoors and indoors in an industrial wastewater environment under all weather conditions.Employees are regularly exposed to chemicals, biohazards, and high noise levels.Position requires entry into confined spaces and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, as needed.Employees must follow safety protocols to minimize exposure to potential hazards while performing maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.Supplemental InformationWorking Conditions:Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199.Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.
