Director of Events
Our students write articles, host podcasts and sponsor events. We even wrote a book!We also keep things civil at all times. Republicans, Democrats, Independents -- all are welcome at OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION (ONC).In our conversations, we always strive to answer the question, "What do we want to DO about this?" We find, by focusing on solutions, we can quickly rise above the "blame game" which has become so stale in our country. We seek to make ONC a household name one day -- a trusted source of fair, accurate and balanced information about politics and public policy. Young people are inheriting a troubled world. At ONC, we are developing America's future leaders, equipping them with skills they will need as they take it from here. Over 900 interns from across the U.S. have participated so far. Experienced mentors gently guide our students. You can find us at https //www.ournationalconversation.org/.,Director of EventsOUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION is a new kind of media outlet. We're nonpartisan, we believe in truth, we're all very civil, we just want to solve problems. Republicans, Democrats, Independents -- all are welcome here.We are largely run by student interns, and we now want "more adults in the room." We seek 3-4 volunteers with real event management experience. One will serve as director; 2-3 others will serve as assistant directors. We want to host a regular schedule of online events -- discussions, podcast recordings, lectures, etc. Students, who don't have so many contacts, aren't so good at this. Plus they often lack the self-confidence required to do outreach, extend invitations, pin down details, make sure follow up happens, etc.Once we start doing a better job with online events, we want to move in the direction of in-person events. We want to set up chapters on college campuses across America. We have some ideas for annual events we think could generate significant media attention. The students can't do this all on their own and I'm pulled in too many directions. We need help. You will have a team of interns reporting to you, but they really need a "take charge" leader to provide guidance and direction. You will mentor them; they will learn from you.We have some very exciting projects in various states of readiness, but we have a hard time pushing them over the finish line. Students need direction and guidelines and they are eager to please, once they know what to do. That's where you come in.Events DirectorAttends meetings and communicates with team throughout the week using Slack, zoom, email, Google DriveHelps with recruiting, team building, team managementPossesses experience in events management tasks/dutiesGood with creative ideas students can followOversees student team leadersCan commit to 1 year of volunteer work (4-8 hours per week)Our student media team, which includes events, holds a standing meeting every Tuesday at 6 30 EST. We might move this to an earlier time slot by a few hours, but this is what our meeting time is right now. This meeting usually runs around 40 minutes. You will need to be able to attend that meeting at that time if you want to pursue this. You will get outstanding experience -- plus you'll be doing something good for America. You will be helping develop America's future leaders and together we can help reduce toxic partisanship in America. If we raise money, our intent is to start paying people, at least on a part-time basis, so this could turn into something more. Our ability to raise money will largely be a function of how good a job we're doing, so everyone's contribution matters. We think, with one big push, 2026 could be our breakout year.
