Summary:Painter II (Intermediate) performs skilled preparation, application, and finishing of interior and exterior surfaces on residential and light commercial projects. This role works independently or as part of a crew and is responsible for delivering consistent finish quality, proper surface preparation, and efficient execution. Painter II provides guidance to entry-level painters and upholds company standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.Essential Functions:Performs skilled surface preparation including scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, mudding, and minor repairsApplies primers, stains, sealers, and finish coatings using brush, roller, and spray equipmentExecutes high-quality interior and exterior painting with attention to detailReads and interprets scopes of work, work orders, and manufacturer specificationsSets up and operates spray equipment, pressure washers, sanding tools, ladders, and scaffolding safelyEnsures proper masking, covering, and protection of adjacent surfacesIdentifies substrate conditions and selects appropriate products and application methodsTroubleshoots coating failures, adhesion issues, and surface defectsMaintains jobsite cleanliness, organization, and equipment upkeepDocuments daily activities, materials used, and progress updatesProvides instruction and guidance to entry-level paintersOther Functions:Assists with punch list completion, warranty repairs, and special coatingsSupports layout planning, color matching, and finish selection when requestedParticipates in safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talksEnsures company vehicles, tools, and sprayers remain clean and operationalProvides customer education on coating care and maintenance expectationsMental and Physical Demands:Regular lifting and carrying of 50-75 lbs, and occasional lifting of up to 75-100 lbsFrequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and overhead reachingWorks on ladders, scaffolding, elevated platforms, attics, and crawlspacesExposure to chemicals, paint fumes, dust, weather, heat, and coldRequires strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines independentlySupervisory Responsibilities:May assist in guiding entry-level painters but has no formal supervisory dutiesCore Competencies/Qualifications:High school diploma or GED required3-5 years of residential or commercial painting experienceProficiency in brush, roll, and spray application techniquesStrong knowledge of surface preparation, coatings, and application methodsAbility to read scopes, instructions, and SDS documentationStrong communication skills and ability to mentor apprenticesValid California driver's license with clean driving recordBenefits & Perks:Professional Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) or retirement plan; Paid time off and holidays; Company-provided uniforms and safety gear; Career development and training opportunities.
