Brief DescriptionDepartment: FinanceClassification/FLSA: Full-Time Staff/ExemptReports to: Chief Financial OfficerDescriptionThis position is responsible for the internal control, data integrity, and accounting for Simpson University and related entities “University” financial activities. Primary duties are responsibility for and processing of the University general ledger and related financial statements and managerial reports as directed, including audited reports, all related entity and subsidiary account reconciliation, cash reconciliation, government and other compliance reporting and related research issues. Secondary duties involve financial affairs support in the areas of accounting, finance and financial aid accounts processing and reporting activities and related customer service. This position also provides supervision of the accounting department personnel.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required. Minimum of seven years in accounting/financial management preferredStrong accounting and communication/interpersonal skills, including experience in not-for profit multi-entity organizations, financial statement preparation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), government auditing standards (GAS), and U.S. Office of Management & Budget (OMB) circular A-133 compliance statementDemonstrate technological aptitude and proficiency through strong computer application skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.); direct experience with Colleague is preferredExtensive knowledge with quality control development and maintenance, tax and other audit/compliance reporting issues related to corporate accountingSelf-starter, highly motivated and well-organizedExcellent organizational and administrative abilities, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks effectivelyHighly professional in integrity and demeanorGeneral ExpectationsPersonal relationship with Jesus, a vibrant Christian faith, and a commitment to Christian community; capable of sharing faith and engaging in conversations about ChristDemonstrate Simpson University Values in the performance of all dutiesMaintain lifestyle in accordance with Simpson University Lifestyle Policy in Staff HandbookMaintain the confidentiality of information, data and recordsProperly exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, and professional judgmentDemonstrate strong customer service skills in the performance of job dutiesDemonstrate good organizational and communication skills in the performance of job dutiesSupervises employees in accordance with Simpson University policies and procedures Support the overflow needs of other departments within the respective university areaPerform other duties in accordance with this position as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisorEssential FunctionsManage accounting processes for the University and related entities, including leadership and direct supervision of accounts payable, payroll and accounts receivableAssist CFO with development of an improved accounting environment to effectively manage operations and accountabilityDevelop policy and procedures for University accounting operations consistent with sound internal control, data integrity, and financial and managerial reporting practicesResponsible for daily operations of accounting system and University general ledgerPrepare audit schedules and notes to the financial statements.
