POSITION: MECHANICSCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:Service, maintain and repair mechanical parts in transportation support vehicles and equipment.SUPERVISON BY: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISORSPRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Diagnose and repair problems on Authority vehicles and equipmentPerform general maintenance of all Authority equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignition parts, clean and adjust carburetors.Perform preventive maintenance and make inspections of vehicles for proper working order and safe operation.Perform other job-related duties as assigned MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Knowledge of welding practices and techniquesKnowledge of diesel and gasoline powered enginesKnowledge of routine vehicular maintenanceSkill in reading and interpreting technical informationSkill in making mechanical adjustments and repairsA proficiency with diagnostics equipmentThe ability to pass background checks for license, criminal and referencesThe ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screenAbility to pass criminal background checksEDUCATIONAL and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalentFive years experience in bus mechanics or related fieldA minimum of 2 State Certifications in Automotive Technology, preferably in Diesel engine, electrical, suspension or brakesExtensive experience working on large trucks and/or busesA valid Michigan driver's license and the ability to obtain a Group A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsementPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
