Equipment Technician
Job Description:
Summary:
The equipment technician is a key member of the project support services team and helps fellow Barr staff members provide exceptional service to our clients by supporting them with their equipment needs for project-focused work. This person assists multiple teams by troubleshooting and repairing equipment, managing equipment inventory, assisting with vehicle maintenance, and keeping the field office location neat and organized. This position is well suited for someone who can demonstrate strong organizational and proactive communication skills, mechanical (hands-on) aptitude, problem-solving, and teamwork in a company that values collaboration, ownership of problems, and an exceptional customer experience.
Key responsibilities:
Maintaining inventory control of Barr’s expendable supplies
Providing equipment maintenance (e.g., calibration and minor repairs for environmental and engineering monitoring devices)
Organizing and maintaining equipment storage areas
Packaging and preparing samples, equipment, and other items for shipment
Managing international shipping, including navigating specific shipping and customs requirements
Assisting with equipment budgeting and tracking activities
Collaborating with safety staff on their equipment needs for various safety programs
Developing, documenting, and implementing equipment-related processes and procedures
Contributing to safety-related practice documents
Conducting equipment-related orientation and training
Troubleshooting equipment and logistical issues
Assisting with maintenance activities for company vehicles, including cleaning and vendor management)
Minimum Qualifications :
Vocational diploma, technical degree, trade certification, or associate degree in a related area of practice
Three or more years of related experience
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook and Excel
Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities simultaneously
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of people
Demonstrated self-initiative and motivation with an emphasis on client service
Ability to work both independently and on a team
Willingness to periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
Ability to occasionally travel to project sites and other offices, as necessary
Ability to participate in outdoor work, year-round
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Experience with a similar role in a similar company
Experience supporting internal equipment operations
This position is based in our Duluth field office and requires a Monday through Friday, in-office work schedule.
