Job Title: Coach & Physical Education Teacher Department: Athletics / Physical EducationReports To: Director, Athletics / Physical EducationClassification: ExemptPrimary PurposeFar Hills Country Day School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Coach and Physical Education Teacher to inspire our students through athletics and movement. This dynamic role combines coaching girls' field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse at the middle school level (grades 5–8), teaching physical education to our younger students (PreK–4), and ensuring the safety and success of our ropes-course program. You will cultivate a culture of athleticism, resilience, and inclusion while helping students develop healthy habits and a lifelong love of physical activity.Key ResponsibilitiesCoaching & Team DevelopmentCoach girls' field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse teams for grades 5–8Develop age-appropriate practice plans and game strategiesFoster teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth in student-athletesManage team logisticsCommunicate regularly with parents regarding team updates and student progressAssist the Director of Athletics with daily routines and responsibilities, as well as gamesPhysical Education InstructionTeach engaging, standards-based P.E. classes to students in PreK–4Design lessons that promote gross motor skill development, fitness, and healthy habitsCreate an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel confident participatingAssess student progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.Integrate character education and leadership opportunities across all P.E. activitiesRopes Course ManagementObtain and maintain proper belaying certification through a recognized programEnsure all participants receive thorough instruction and safety briefingsSupervise student and teacher participants to guarantee safe practicesAdditional DutiesContribute to the school's athletic vision and philosophyMaintain equipment inventory and facility upkeepAttend required professional development and coaching trainingsParticipate in school events and community initiativesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent professional coaching experience in athleticsDemonstrated experience coaching girls' youth sportsStrong classroom management and instructional skillsCPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)Willingness to pursue ropes-course belaying certificationExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsCommitment to student-centered, inclusive athleticsAbility to work collaboratively with colleagues and familiesPreferred QualificationsExperience coaching multiple sportsPrior experience teaching P.E. to elementary-age studentsCoaching certification from USA Field Hockey, Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), or similar organizations preferredBackground in outdoor education or adventure-based learningPhysical RequirementsAbility to be on your feet for extended periodsCapacity to demonstrate athletic movements and skillsAbility to lift, carry, and organize athletic equipment and suppliesWillingness to participate in physical activities alongside studentsFlexibility to work during school hours and attend evening/weekend athletic eventsCompensation and BenefitsHours: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.Salary: $45,000 - $52,000 annuallyBenefits Eligible: Health, Dental, VisionExpected Start Date: week of August 24, 2026Application ProcessTo apply, please submit the following materials as a single PDF or through our online portal:Cover Letter – Share your coaching and teaching philosophy, including your approach to working with girls in sportsResume – Highlight relevant coaching, teaching, and certificationsThree Professional References – Include names, titles, phone numbers, and email addressesRelevant Certifications – Copies of current CPR/First Aid, teaching credentials, or coaching certificationsSubmission DetailsSubmit materials to: careers@fhcds.orgSubject line: "Athletic Coach & P.E.
