You'll challenge advanced language models with expert-level problems, expose their blind spots, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about environmental science and engineering.This is a fully remote, flexible contract role — work on your own schedule, 10 to 40 hours per week.What You'll DoDesign Expert-Level Problems — Develop complex, multi-step environmental engineering challenges spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and moreAuthor Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations — that set the benchmark for correct AI responsesAudit AI Outputs — Critically evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and technical calculations for accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards like EPA regulations and ISO 14001Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI thinking — such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological treatment processes or failure to account for secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured feedback that directly improves model performanceWho You AreAdvanced Degree — Masters (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering with an environmental focus, or a closely related disciplineDomain Expertise — Strong foundation in one or more areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediationAnalytical Writer — Able to communicate complex ecological and engineering concepts clearly and precisely in written formDetail-Oriented — High precision when checking unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory compliance logicNo prior AI experience required — if you know your field, we'll handle the restNice to HavePrior experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflowsFamiliarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, EPA tools)Why Join UsWork on cutting-edge AI projects with top research labs and AI teamsFully remote and asynchronous — work when and where it suits youFreelance flexibility with meaningful, intellectually engaging workContribute to AI systems that will be used across environmental, scientific, and engineering contexts worldwidePotential for ongoing work and contract extension based on performance
