This role emphasizes scientific thinking, collaboration, and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners and cultivate an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning community.Key ResponsibilitiesTeach five sections of high school science aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) FrameworksDesign and implement engaging, phenomena-based lessons that integrate science practices and real-world applicationsDifferentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of all studentsEstablish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity and student voiceCollaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and vertically aligned curriculumUse assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching strategies as neededParticipate in department, building, and IEP meetings, as well as parent/guardian conferencesMaintain consistent, effective communication with families to support student successUphold laboratory safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment and materialsSupport and implement district and school-based initiativesQualificationsRequired:Massachusetts DESE licensure in High School Science (Grades 9-12) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related fieldSheltered English Immersion (SEI) EndorsementKnowledge of the 2016 MA STE FrameworksPreferred:* Experience with phenomena-based or storyline-driven curriculum design* Familiarity with inclusive instructional practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)Skills and CompetenciesAbility to differentiate instruction and effectively engage students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and learning needsCommitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive classroom practicesStrong classroom management and relationship-building skillsReflective practitioner dedicated to continuous professional growthCollaborative mindset with a willingness to engage in shared problem-solvingEffective communication skills with students, families, and colleaguesProficiency with instructional technology in a 1:1 learning environmentStrong organizational skills and attention to detailProfessional ExpectationsEngage in curriculum development and review within the department and across disciplinesDesign instruction that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world connectionsUtilize a variety of assessment methods and provide timely, meaningful feedbackMaintain accurate records in accordance with district policies and legal requirementsSupport students' academic and social-emotional developmentAdhere to all state laws, district policies, and professional standardsEnsure the safety of students, materials, and equipment at all timesParticipate in ongoing professional learning and stay current with best practicesServe on school and district committees as assigned
