MASTER TRADES SPECIALISTCLASSIFICATION TITLE: MASTER TRADES SPECIALISTPURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATIONThe purpose of this classification is to perform highly skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities. Employees in this class perform complex trades work on major maintenance and repair projects and serve as lead workers by instructing, directing and training other trades specialists. Work involves the installation, evaluation, diagnoses, repair and maintenance of heating, water, air conditioning, electrical and/or ventilation systems, related components and/or building interiors, exteriors and structures.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Performs highly skilled maintenance, diagnostic evaluations and repair work on County buildings andfacilities. Work involves a combination of trade areas to include extensive experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or heating, ventilation andair conditioning (Mechanical). Work is performedto ensure structural safety; proper functioning and operations; aesthetic value, and compliance with applicable standards, policies and practices.Serves as a lead worker at assigned job sites; provides direction and guidance to other trade specialistsand/or inmates; demonstrate proper techniques and safety principles; and assigns and reviews work.Installs, maintains, diagnosis and repairs building systems and related structures and components such as plumbing, security, sprinkler, electrical and/or Mechanical systems; and performs skilled carpentry work in the installation, construction, remodeling, and repairing of building structures, interiors and exteriors.Performs the full range of tasks for assigned trades work to include construction and installation, inspecting, diagnosing and troubleshooting; repairing and replacing components; removing and/or demolishing old components; and hauling materials, supplies and tools.Reads and interprets blueprints, plans and schematics of systems/structures being repaired.Inspects and adjusts mechanical systems such as boilers, chillers and water heaters. Examines and maintains fire alarm systems to ensure proper functioning.Operates various types of hand tools, power equipment and machinery, precision instruments, specialized tools, gauges and devices and automotive vehicles in the performance of varied skilled trades work. Maintains and performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSKeeps work sites and supply areas clean.Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by six (6) years of experience performing skilled building maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Some positions may require journey level certifications in an assigned Trades specialty area.ADA COMPLIANCEPhysical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
