Product Design Engineer
About the RoleWalrus Audio is seeking a talented and motivated Product Design Engineer to join our team inOklahoma City. This is a core engineering role that sits at the intersection of electrical design,musicality, and product development — you will own projects from initial concept through publicrelease.You will be the primary engineer working on and overseeing individual product developmentefforts: designing and validating analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuitry; driving technicaldecisions; following strategic project timelines; and collaborating closely with our product teamto bring complete, polished products to market. It is our goal to make guitar effects thatare as inspiring to play as they are to look at.ResponsibilitiesElectrical DesignAnalyze product and system requirements to develop ground-up analog, digital, and mixed-signal system architecturesDesign electrical circuitry including schematic entry and PCB layout using Altium DesignerAssemble and test prototypes of new designs in the labQuickly identify design issues and develop practical, effective solutions throughout the development cycleWork with compliance labs to ensure all designs meet electromagnetic and safety standardsProject & Product OwnershipEngage at the product level — contributing informed perspective on features, user experience, and design tradeoffs rather than simply executing a requirements listDevelop Product Requirement Documents for individual products, based on input from the product team, that will guide all aspects of developmentOwn the technical design side of individual product projects from kickoff to release, serving as the primary point of accountability for technical scope, design, and qualityCollaborate with our firmware and hardware engineers to ensure all design elements integrate effectively into a complete, shippable productWork with in-house project manager to develop and follow project schedules and task breakdowns that keep efforts on track and deadlines metCreate and maintain technical documentation including BOMs, test procedures, build guides and other project-associated recordsProduction & Customer SupportSupport the production team by solving manufacturing problems and training build team on new buildsSupport customer service by troubleshooting and resolving issues with defective productsPersonal & Organizational SkillsHighly organized; able to keep track of large amounts of deliverables and tasks related to multiple projects at a time, from the initial idea through to the final product – without having to be micro-managedAble to see projects and work from multiple points of view to present work that’s been self thoroughly scrutinizedComfortable operating independently with a "see a need, fill a need" mindset — proactive rather than reactiveFlexible and positive under pressure; able to adapt quickly in a fluid, fast-moving environment while maintaining harmony with the teamStrong communicator who works well within a small, collaborative engineering teamAble to take direction and constructive feedback while also advocating for sound technical decisions to become a better contributor as the seasons passDeep understanding of and genuine passion for guitar effects and musicOperates with complete integrity with a team and aloneRequirementsBS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience3+ years of experience in audio hardware development including analog, digital control, DSP, and mixed-signal designProficient in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium DesignerProficient in soldering and reworking by hand, both through hole and SMD componentsHands-on experience in an electronics lab with full understanding of standard test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and signal generatorsWorking knowledge of Audio Precision test equipment and standard audio analysisDemonstrated ability to build, test and troubleshoot PCB prototypes quickly and accuratelyDemonstrated ability to assemble, test and troubleshoot products as whole includingPCBs, mechanical components, chassis, cases, etcAbility to set and meet realistic project timelines given a defined set of features and deliverablesBackground in music is required — this is non-negotiableFirmware development experience is a plus.
