Job Summary:The SQL Data Engineer is responsible for data investigation, remediation, migration, and quality assurance across Neumo's Revenue Compliance product line. Reporting to the Development Manager, this role works within a cross-functional product team to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of production data supporting tax filing and revenue collection systems.This position focuses on SQL-driven data operations — investigation, validation, migration, and controlled remediation of production data — rather than greenfield application development. Immediate priorities include supporting an active data remediation effort and executing a data migration to a new platform.Duties And ResponsibilitiesInvestigate and diagnose data integrity issues across multi-million-row production databasesWrite and execute complex SQL queries spanning dozens of related tables (returns, schedules, sub-schedules, audit logs, payment records)Build and maintain data validation scripts that identify affected records and categorize them by scenarioDevelop safe, testable bulk data correction scripts with dry-run capability, transaction isolation, and rollback supportPlan and execute data migrations between platforms, including schema mapping, transformation logic, data validation, and cutover planningProduce structured reports on data quality — affected record counts by jurisdiction, return type, and scenarioTroubleshoot, debug, and optimize database components and query performanceCollaborate with Product Owners, QA, DevOps, and application engineers to understand data flow from UI through business logic to databaseParticipate in Agile/SCRUM ceremonies, including planning, estimation, and retrospectivesParticipate in code review for any scripts or tools that modify production dataDocument changes, migration procedures, and implementation details where appropriateSupport production systems and assist with issue resolution and root-cause analysisPerform other duties as assignedEducation And ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field required. Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with relational databases in enterprise or SaaS environmentsExpert-level SQL Server skills — complex multi-table queries, query plan analysis, safe bulk update scripts, and deep understanding of relational integrityProven experience with data migrations — schema mapping between source and target systems, transformation logic, data validation, and cutover executionExperience supporting applications in production environments and troubleshooting performance or data integrity issuesExperience working in Agile/Scrum development environmentsExperience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and CI/CD pipelines is preferredExperience working with government, tax, licensing, financial systems, or other regulated industries is a plusKnowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:Expert-level SQL Server skills — complex multi-table JOINs, CTEs, window functions, query plan analysis, indexing strategyExperience writing safe bulk UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE scripts against production databasesStrong understanding of relational integrity — foreign keys, referential constraints, cascade behaviorExperience with data migration patterns, ETL processes, and data quality validationExperience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or equivalent reporting toolsComfort navigating a large, unfamiliar schema independentlyStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsDetail-oriented and methodical — the kind of person who double-checks row counts before committingAbility to analyze requirements and deliver production-ready solutions Preferred:Experience parsing and shredding XML data into relational tables (OPENXML, XQuery, FOR XML)Familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance or SQL Server on AzureExperience with .NET applications (VB.NET, C#) — understanding how the application writes dataFamiliarity with audit log analysis and forensic data investigationExperience with Dapper, Entity Framework, or ADO.NETExperience supporting tax, revenue, or regulated systemsUnderstanding of security, reliability, and maintainability considerations in production systemsExperience with SaaS or hosted application environmentsWork EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office setting, at an individual work station, using telephone and computer.Physical DemandsMust be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the dayConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machineThis position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to attend daily SCRUM and other team meetings Neumo Summary:With the backing of four decades of public sector expertise and corporate capability, Neumo has successfully supported government services.
