Robert Half is seeking a Senior COBOL Mainframe Developer with AWS experience to support an established insurance and financial services organization. This role focuses on building APIs and integration layers to expose data from legacy mainframe systems, while supporting ongoing maintenance (KTLO) and new capability development.If you feel this aligns with your background, apply today!Schedule: Core availability 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM PSTDuration: 6-month contract, likely to extend or convertLocation: 100% RemotePay: $60-$68/hr on W2Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.Job Duties:Develop, enhance, and maintain IBM mainframe applications supporting legacy insurance and retirement systemsBuild and support APIs and integration layers to expose mainframe data and functionality to downstream platformsMaintain and enhance COBOL-based systems, including batch processing and online transactionsSupport KTLO (Keep the Lights On) work, production stability, and ongoing system maintenanceDesign and implement AWS-based solutions as needed to support integrations and platform capabilitiesParticipate in technical design discussions to ensure system reliability, scalability, and long-term stabilityContribute to new capability development on top of existing legacy systems (not net-new policy platforms)Skills Required: 10+ years of hands-on IBM mainframe development experience in production environmentsStrong experience with: COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAMExperience building or supporting APIs on the mainframeStrong understanding of legacy systems, batch processing, and transaction-based architecturesHands-on AWS experience is required, (AWS architect-level experience is not required.)Experience with SOAP and/or REST integrationsAbility to work independently in a distributed team environment without dedicated AWS-only engineersNice-to-Haves:Experience with Vantage or similar annuity / insurance policy administration systemsPrior experience in insurance or financial services environmentsFamiliarity with AI-assisted development toolsExperience supporting or working across multiple versions of COBOLOur specialized recruiting professionals apply their expertise and utilize our proprietary AI to find you a great job that matches faster.The hourly range for this position is $60 to $68/hr.
