Senior Electrical Engineer - Building Systems Design (PE Required)Location: Chantilly, VAEmployment Type: Direct HireCompensation: Starting at $130,000+ annually (based on experience)Role OverviewAn established engineering environment is seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of building systems projects. This position plays a key role in managing electrical design efforts from early site evaluation through final construction support, while also providing mentorship to junior engineering staff.The role supports a mix of commercial, institutional, and government-related projects, including both new construction and renovation work.Key FunctionsProject Leadership & Client InterfaceAct as the primary electrical engineering lead on assigned projectsManage design efforts from initial concept through final deliveryCoordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycleDesign & Technical Execution Perform site evaluations and document existing field conditionsPrepare engineering studies, reports, and supporting documentationDesign and analyze building electrical systems, including:Lighting and power distributionFire alarm systemsTelecommunications and low-voltage infrastructureMedium voltage distribution and utility coordinationUPS and emergency power systemsDevelop construction documents and detailed technical specificationsConstruction Phase SupportRespond to RFIs during bidding and constructionReview contractor submittals for compliance with design intentParticipate in field observations and final inspectionsSupport project closeout, including as-built documentationQuality & Project ControlsMonitor project schedules and budgets to ensure alignment with expectationsPerform quality assurance reviews of design deliverablesEnsure adherence to applicable codes, standards, and best practicesRequired QualificationsU.S. Citizenship requiredBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited programActive Professional Engineer (P.E.) licenseMinimum of 10 years of experience in building systems electrical designTechnical Expertise Strong background in:Lighting and power system designFire alarm and low-voltage systemsMedium voltage distributionEmergency and backup power systemsGrounding and utility coordinationProficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, AGI32, and SKMPreferred CredentialsActive Secret or Top Secret clearanceCDT (Construction Specifications Institute) certificationLEED Accredited Professional (USGBC)RCDD certificationWork EnvironmentProjects include a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, and government facilities, with involvement in both ground-up construction and renovation efforts.Why This RoleThis opportunity offers a leadership position for a licensed engineer looking to take ownership of impactful building system designs while guiding junior staff and contributing to technically complex projects.We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
