Senior Bookkeeper – ConstructionWestchester County, NY (Onsite)$80,000–$110,000 + BenefitsThe OpportunityA well-established construction firm with a steady pipeline of projects is looking to hire a Senior Bookkeeper to support its finance function. With operations spanning multiple active job sites and some overlap into property-related work, the business offers a dynamic environment combining project-based accounting with traditional bookkeeping.This is a high-impact role suited to someone who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle while gaining exposure to job costing and construction financials.Position OverviewReporting to the VP of Operations, the Senior Bookkeeper will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, and support timely reporting across both corporate and project-level finances. This role requires strong attention to detail, independence, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Core ResponsibilitiesAccounting & General LedgerMaintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all transactionsPerform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processesPrepare and post journal entriesReconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and balance sheet accountsMonitor cash flow and ensure proper classification of expenses and revenuesAccounts Payable & ReceivableOversee accounts payable, including vendor management and timely paymentsManage invoicing, collections, and customer paymentsResolve billing discrepancies and handle vendor/client inquiriesMaintain aging reports and follow up on outstanding balancesProject & Construction AccountingSupport job cost tracking across labor, materials, and subcontractorsAssist with project-related billing and revenue trackingWork closely with operations/project teams to ensure accurate cost allocationContribute to WIP tracking and project financial visibilityPayroll & ComplianceAssist with or oversee payroll processing and reconciliationsEnsure accurate recording of payroll taxes, benefits, and deductionsSupport compliance with relevant regulationsPrepare documentation for audits and external accountantsFinancial Reporting & AnalysisPrepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)Analyze variances and provide insights to managementSupport budgeting and forecasting activitiesMaintain organized, audit-ready financial recordsSystems & Process ImprovementManage accounting systems (QuickBooks preferred)Ensure adherence to internal controls and proceduresIdentify and implement process improvementsCoordinate with external accountants and advisorsQualifications5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within construction, subcontracting, or project-based environmentsStrong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reportingExposure to job costing, WIP, or project accounting strongly preferredProficiency with QuickBooks (required); ERP experience a plusAdvanced Excel skillsHigh attention to detail and ability to work independentlyStrong communication and organizational skillsWhat’s Attractive About This RoleStable construction business with consistent project flowBlend of traditional bookkeeping and project accounting exposureHigh level of ownership and visibility within the businessOpportunity to work closely with operations and project teamsCompetitive salary and benefits packageContact Paudy @HireIQ
