1:1 Nurse
Position OverviewThe Weston Public Schools is seeking a 1:1 Nurse to help with the development, implementation, and management of a student's Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP), on the school bus to and from school, and during the school day. This is a full-time, school year role, Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. reporting to the Director of Health Services and the Director of Student Services. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 150 students (K-12).Key ResponsibilitiesEmbrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion while actively working to build an equitable school communityProvide everyday care for the student in accordance with the IHCPCollect information about the health and development of the studentAdminister medication and medically prescribed treatmentsAssess student response to nursing interventions and revises the database, nursing diagnoses, and nursing care plan as neededConsult with the School Nurse, Director of Health Services, School Physician, and School Principal to review and revise student's IHCP, policies, procedures, and specific programs for managing student health, education, and services while in schoolPromote positive safety procedures, and ensures the school has a medical emergency plan that is communicated to key school personnelResponsible for responding to emergency situations Desired QualificationsMust have a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in MassachusettsBachelor's degree in nursing from a college or university program in nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing recommended. Bachelor's degree in a related field may be acceptable if all other requirements are met.School Nurse license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferredCertified in CPR for healthcare professionals through a recognized provider (e.g., American Heart Association)Minimum of two years of nursing experience in school nursing, community health, or child healthRecent emergency management in an acute care setting preferredBasic computer knowledge including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic medical record systemsCompletion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health Hiring Timeline
