Gearbox Manager
Job DescriptionWe are working with a client company in the Chicago Metro Region seeking a Gearbox Manager for a growing company.The Gearbox Assembly Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of gearbox assembly, from subassembly through final build, testing, and shipment. The ideal candidate has strong experience in mechanical assembly of industrial gearboxes and power transmission systems, along with proven leadership ability in a manufacturing environment.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise gearbox assembly teams, including assemblers and techniciansOversee complete gearbox builds (industrial, custom, and precision applications)Ensure proper installation of gears, shafts, bearings, seals, housings, and lubrication systemsManage torque specifications, alignment procedures, and preload settingsOversee functional testing, run-off, and quality verificationPartner with Engineering to support new product launches and custom buildsMonitor productivity, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery metricsImplement lean manufacturing practices within assembly operationsEnsure compliance with ISO quality standards and internal proceduresSupport troubleshooting of field returns and internal quality concernsTrain and develop assembly personnelRequired Qualifications5+ years of experience in gearbox or power transmission assembly3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in manufacturingStrong mechanical aptitude and understanding of gear geometry and tolerancesExperience interpreting complex mechanical drawings and BOMsKnowledge of bearing fits, shaft alignment, backlash settings, and gear mesh patternsFamiliarity with assembly torque tools and precision measurement equipmentStrong problem-solving and organizational skillsPreferred Experience in custom or high-mix, low-volume manufacturingBackground in precision gear manufacturing environmentsLean or continuous improvement trainingTechnical degree or equivalent hands-on experienceThis is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically strong leader who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and understands the precision required in gearbox assembly.For more information or to apply directly, contact Alana at alana.seddon@gogpac.com
