Unit Capacity: 24 Beds Population Served: Observation Unit. The most frequent diagnosis for this patient population includes: cardio-respiratory conditions, chest pain, pneumonia, angina, CHF, COPD, Asthma, Gastro-intestinal complaints, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, mental status alteration, syncopal episodes, and confusion. Ages of Patients Served: Young Adult through Late Adult (18 - 60+) Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:6 Core Staffing Plan: Variable staffing grid to include: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Nurse Interns (NIs). An RN assumes full responsibility for the patients on each team..
