Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

General Statement of Duties Under the supervision of the speech pathologist, the SLP-A functions as a member of the student's educational team and assists with implementation of therapy activities, documentation, and classroom collaboration to help students meet communication goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Essential Duties Provide direct speech-language therapy services to students as designed and directed by a supervising Speech-Language PathologistImplement treatment plans and therapy activities targeting articulation, language, fluency, voice, pragmatics, and/or alternative communicationWork with individual students and small groups in therapy settingsSupport student engagement and positive behavior during therapy sessionsCommunicates orally and in writing with parents, school personnel, and outside agency professionalsCollect and record accurate therapy data and progress notesMaintain therapy schedules, logs, and service documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirementsShare progress information with the supervising SLP as neededCollaborate with teachers, special educators, and other school staff to support student communication goalsAssist with preparation of therapy materials and instructional resourcesSupport classroom accommodations and carryover activities as directedParticipate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development as requiredAdhere to ethical, professional, and legal standards of practiceMaintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPAMay assist with speech, language and hearing screenings without clinical Interpretation of resultsOther duties as assignedRegular attendance is requiredMinimum Qualifications This position requires expertise in the remediation of communication disorders, provision of therapy for students with a wide range of disabilities, ongoing data collection, maintenance of Documentation of Service Logs and the ability to work with computers, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, communicate verbally and in writing, work independently and collaboratively.Must hold a valid Virginia Board of Audiology license to practice as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant. Prior experience working with students in a school setting is preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.Additional Information The minimum salary for this 209-day position is $52,740. The annual salary will be prorated based upon the work begin date. The salary quoted is based upon the current pay scale and is subject to change with the adoption of the 2026-27 financial plan.
