Sports OfficialThe Sports Official plays a vital role in advancing the YMCA's mission of strengthening community by connecting people to their potential, purpose, and one another. This position helps create a positive and safe environment where youth learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect through fair and developmentally appropriate officiating. Officiate games consistently, impartially, and in alignment with YMCA philosophy. Demonstrate and teach rules through clear communication and real-time instruction. Maintain a safe playing environment, ensuring equipment and facilities meet safety standards. Support youth development by recognizing individual differences and using positive coaching techniques. Build respectful relationships with players, coaches, and families; promote character development. Communicate effectively with coaches and the Sports & Recreation Director regarding any concerns. Oversee player conduct and safety before, during, and after games. Uphold YMCA policies and represent the organization with professionalism, integrity, and respect. Promote timely flow of games by managing schedules and transitions appropriately. Attend required trainings and remain up-to-date on officiating protocols. Model YMCA core values and use the Y-Voice: Welcoming, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine, and Nurturing. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the YMCA's mission and strategic goals. Critical Thinking & Decision Making: Makes fair and timely judgments; adjusts to dynamic situations on the field or court. Emotional Maturity: Maintains composure and professionalism under pressure. Program/Project Management: Prepares for, executes, and evaluates program outcomes through officiating assignments. Must be at least 16 years of age. Knowledge of the rules and general gameplay for assigned sport(s). Completion of YMCA Online Officials Training prior to first scheduled game. Certification in Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting and Emergency Procedures (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm, fair, and professional in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience working with children or in a youth sports setting preferred. Understands that the YMCA is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Bloodborne Pathogens Training (or equivalent approved by the YMCA) Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification Emergency Procedures Training CPR and First Aid Certification Online Officials Training (YMCA or equivalent) Ability to lift up to 25 pounds using proper technique. Must be able to run, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods. Work is primarily outdoors and may include exposure to various weather conditions. Requires bending, reaching, and quick physical response in active game settings. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
