Mainframe Developer (COBOL/CICS) – Remote (East Coast Preferred) Job Type: Contract (12+ Months, with possible extension to 18 months) Location: Remote (East Coast candidates preferred) W2 Only Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with a strong background in debit card processing and mission-critical banking applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing and supporting high-volume, real-time transaction processing systems in a mainframe environment. This role requires hands-on expertise with COBOL, CICS, and JCL, along with a solid understanding of debit card authorization, ISO 8583 messaging, and production support. Required Skills Strong experience with Mainframe COBOL development Hands-on experience with CICS Strong JCL knowledge Extensive experience in Debit Card Processing Experience with real-time transaction processing (OLTP) Knowledge of ISO 8583 card transaction messaging Experience with authorization and decisioning logic (approve/decline, balance validation, spending limits) Understanding of the complete debit transaction lifecycle from POS/ATM through issuer authorization, including reversals and holds Experience troubleshooting and debugging production transactions in real time Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Banking or Financial Services experience Experience supporting high-availability production systems Ability to work independently in a remote environment What You'll Do Develop and enhance mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, and JCL Support mission-critical debit card processing systems Analyze and resolve production issues involving real-time transactions Debug transaction failures and identify authorization or processing issues Work closely with business and technical teams to deliver high-quality solutions Participate in code reviews, testing, and production deployments Interview Process 2–3 Webex interviews If you have deep experience in mainframe development and debit card processing, we'd love to hear from you.
