Job Title: Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
Reports To: Director of Operations
Supports: Project Managers/PEs
Engineers-in-Training (EITs) are responsible for supporting Project Managers/PEs and the Civil design team to deliver civil engineering services throughout each phase of the project lifecycle. EITs at Austin Civil Engineering will also participate in select and appropriate activities related to project contracts within the Accounting, Business Development and Marketing functions.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with Project Managers/PEs and other professionals in the team with initiation, design, analysis, compliance, and documentation of civil engineering and land development design solutions.
Research records and conduct site visits and fieldwork to collect data, measurements, and observations to prepare reports to assess the feasibility of proposed projects.
Assist in the design, drafting and review of plans, specifications, and construction documents for various civil engineering projects and infrastructure such as site plans, traffic control, transportation solutions, water systems, sewage systems, and storm water, drainage systems, etc.
Perform calculations and simulations to evaluate technical aspects of projects.
Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify design drawings, specifications, and models.
Participate in meetings, phone calls and emails with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to review project requirements, progress, and compliance.
Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, legal, and design consultants -- including surveyors, architects, environmental scientists, construction personnel, etc. -- to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Support project management by organizing files, tracking deadlines, and communicating with team members.
Coordinate consultant bids and prepare construction cost estimates by researching materials, labor, and equipment prices.
Assist in managing project budgets, timelines, and resources.
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure project specifications and requirements are met.
Conduct on-site inspections to monitor the progress of construction projects, ensure compliance with design specifications and codes, and resolve any issues that may arise.
Respond to and track construction documentation including material submittals, RFIs, change orders and construction schedules.
Ensure that projects are completed within established quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Stay up to date with the latest industry standards, technologies, and regulations (especially those affecting development in Central Texas -- City of Austin and surrounding jurisdiction’s Drainage Criteria Manual, Environmental Criteria Manual, and Land Development Codes) through self-study and by attending trainings, seminars, and conferences.
Contribute to the development of new business opportunities by researching project feasibility, applicable codes and regulations, and existing conditions of the property to inform the scope of work for new contracts.
Account for individual time and expenses spent performing EIT responsibilities using the standard company time and expense tracking software and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by Project Managers/PEs.

Education/Training
Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Experience
EIT or PE certification in Civil Engineering is required. Knowledge and technical experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
