ResponsibilitiesDESCRIPTION: The Custodian Lead supervises direct reports, including scheduling, training, evaluating, and disciplining. Ensures custodial services provide a safe and healthy environment. Oversees custodial operations in the absence of department leadership.Essential Functions Supervises direct reports, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring workload. Conducts training for assigned custodians in areas of safety and handling of cleaning chemicals, safe operation of cleaning equipment, bloodborne pathogens, and use of personal protective equipment while adhering to College and OSHA policies, procedures, and standards. Executes department quality control/quality assurance program by inspecting work accomplished by the team and providing feedback for improvement. Documents performance and completes annual performance appraisals for assigned staff with the guidance of supervisor. Oversees custodial operations in the absence of department leadership. Oversees custodial resources and staff assignment as well as with coordinating with other departments for event set-ups, and tear downs, and relocation of furniture. Cleans, sanitizes, and maintains internal and external assigned buildings as appropriate. Ensures recyclables, garbage, metals, and construction debris is sorted and stored in respective containers. Maintains inventory control of janitorial supplies and recommends reordering. Delivers supplies to areas and takes supply shipments from receiving to storage. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Valid Florida driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of hire with acceptable driving record. Three years of related custodial work experience in an institutional, multi-building environment.Desired Qualifications One year of supervisory experience in the custodial field.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of janitorial/cleaning materials, equipment, and procedures. Proficient in methods and techniques of cleaning and preserving floors, furniture, walls, and fixtures. Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies used in janitorial and custodial work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English. General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with employees and others at all levels. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Commitment to working in a multicultural environment. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.WORK ENVIRONMENT And SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS Works in confined areas. Handles hazardous materials and equipment; must wear protective gear as needed. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to bend, stand, climb, and walk for extended periods. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions. Must be able to work flexible days and shifts.
